Distinction between pre- & post-capillary pulmonary hypertension is important for guiding therapy. Here are some echo clues to help distinguish between these levels of PH.
More info about ePLAR: Int J Cardiol. 2016 Jun 1;212:379-86. doi: 10.1016/j.ijcard.2016.03.035

Congratulations to my old fellow @ScaliaGreg and Brisbane colleagues for devising the ePLAR index, now shown to predict mortality in COVID pts. A quick way to distinguish pre- from post-capillary PH! @HFpEF @NMCardioVasc @JaeKOh2 @ASE360 #EchoFirst
Echo in COVID-19:
🔥Hot off the press.... ePLAR (TRVmax divided by mitral E:e' septal) reported as a powerful prognostic tool in COVID-19 patients - especially when PASP is elevated.

Great data emphasizing the "rule of nines"..e'<9, E/e' >9 and E >90 associated with poor prognosis in >400000 people. Awesome data... Well done NEDA! – at Brisbane, Queensland

Our big data on diastolic function has been published today. ASE/EACVI guidelines predict mortality but many indeterminates. Mortality thresholds with Individual parameters:
❤️ E>90cm/s
❤️ Septal e'<9cm/s
❤️ E:e' > 9
❤️ LAVi>32ml/m2
