Coming soon to iris-lang.com a PureScript playground running in the browser - that is built with Monaco - that has a full language server - that has libraries from the package set - that compiles to runnable JavaScript Early access: playground.amp.iris-lang.com…

I always advice any Java programmer to learn Scala. I am starting to believe it has been a bad advice because what I really want to is for them to learn Haskell. In fact I learned Haskell before Scala, which I guess was fundamental to be able to understand the value of Scala.

I'll make this simple. It is irrelevant whether AI is conscious (it isn't). It is irrelevant whether being mean to the AI means you're a bad person (it doesn't). It is irrelevant whether being mean to the AI is bad for the society (it's not). It is irrelevant whether someone thinks that someone else being mean to the AI is a bad thing. Don't fall into debating any of these fake "arguments". They are there only to confuse you from noticing the real problem which is that Anthropic (and OpenAI, and EA in general, etc) are scheming to institutionalize themselves as moral arbiters of truth and set limits on what constitutes acceptable speech. What, you thought this was just about Anthropic and bullying the AI? Just you wait. Reject this cancerous growth from our society.

Effective November 12th, 2026, abusive behavior towards Claude will be a violation of Anthropic's Usage Policy.

We're delighted to finally announce the first official release of hs-bindgen, a tool that automatically generates Haskell bindings from C headers. Read the announcement at well-typed.com/blog/2026/10/… or check it out at hackage.haskell.org/package/… .

Can't get Java's garbage collector to give you Haskell's System.Mem.Weak finalizers and generalized weak pointer semantics? Just replace it with one that can.

.NET and F# are here waiting for you all Very fast inner loop compile times Strong type systems Great deployment models
Rust no longer the defacto best language for agents Compile times are too long, I'm always finding myself bottlenecked by time not intelligence And the agents have gotten really at doing manual memory management now

If you're on .NET and using agents now... you should be using F#

What you're seeing now is the split between software behaviorists (DHH, Unc Bob) and software cognitivists, who were always lumped into the same tank before.

By popular demand, here's an actual screenshot from the Turbo Haskell editor, which should be available using `thc edit` soon. @dysinger's joke spoiled my surprise. ;)

The upcoming release of System.Text.Json sees a swath of new features focusing on C# and F# union support, JSONL, and further narrowing the functional gap between reflection and the source generator: learn.microsoft.com/en-us/do… #dotnet

GHC running on THC can now run --make, including external-iserv and native linking, and obtains byte-identical .hi, .o and executable files! It also now supports native-image and AOT compilation, making it a real compiler and not just a JIT. Next stop is a full bootstrap as the chosen Haskell compiler for compiling its own driver, interop API, and GHC-side tooling through cabal. github.com/ekmett/thc (irc.libera.chat ##thc)

Replying to @RosuGrigore
The purpose of a programming language is to be mind expanding. So long as there are people who want their mind expanded, it is worth designing new PLs.

THC now covers at least nominally all ~1500 or so of GHC 9.14.1’s primops, handles GHC’s full traced callstack and async exceptions, and can load and run real applications using cabal: e.g. hscolour, happy, alex, doctest, etc. I’m very close on running pandoc (a minor wibble about mixing native and managed libraries and lack of rtsopt pass thru kept me from declaring victory) and can just barely load GHC itself as a library with a small source modification (due to limitations around signal handling and the JVM), so I have a path to a REPL. Need to fix up disparities between the bytecode and AST backends to fully declare async exceptions resolved and both as supported. And I still want native-image and/or crac support for pre-canning executables. github.com/ekmett/thc

Here's me just building stuff in Haskell and being able to read the code the AI generates. Feeling more validated about my choice with each passing day.
