Amazing story to start the new year🤩
Oyster fishermen in Kerry protect seagrass & restore one of the largest native oyster beds in Europe.
Ground-up initiatives like this must be supported by new national Marine Protected Area legislation.

Fantastic talk by @ruththurstan presenting, among other things, preliminary results from the Historical Ecology Working Group at the #seascapesymposium. Very striking story of the historical abundance and distribution of oyster habitat.

95% of the UK’s native oyster population has disappeared due to pressures such as overfishing and pollution. Restoring oyster beds could help fight climate change, as they take in carbon to help build their shells. Visit @SavingESTER to find out how to support restoration efforts
