The Government's own National Security Assessment identifies biodiversity loss and ecosystem collapse as imminent risks to our security, resilience and prosperity.
Nature is not a luxury. Healthy ecosystems are the foundation of our food security, public health, economic resilience and national wellbeing. As climate and ecological crises deepen, protecting and restoring nature is essential to our collective future.
That's why I have sponsored @AdrianRamsay's parliamentary motion, which calls on the Government to recognise Nature as a rights-bearing entity, establish a duty of care towards Nature, and ensure that public policy supports the protection, restoration and regeneration of the living systems on which we all depend.

@mod_dio must finally agree to have an evidence-based management plan. @NaturalEngland advise the need for a holistic plan including management of Gorse. They must designate if MOD continues to refuse to comply.

Thank you. We have these discussions in relation to Middlewick Ranges where Gorse has not been managed since 2016- available bare ground is compacted and even that is disappearing. Itโs a complex site and management is complicated enough to require a management plan. @SaveRanges

Hundreds of species have been found living on former farmland bought by a charity following a ยฃ1.5m appeal.๐
The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire took ownership of Strawberry Hill in 2024.
The 377-acre (152-hectare) site between Kettering and Bedford has now been found to contain half of Bedfordshire's nightingales, as well as 11 bat species and 50 species of moss.
Chantelle Warriner, reserves officer, said: "Every visit seems to throw up new species and the more we can learn, the better we can plan the future management to ensure it stays rich in biodiversity."
There were fears the land would be sold and returned to agriculture when the previous owner died, but during the last 18 months the trust has carried out measures to improve the habitat.
Scientists and volunteers dug six new ponds and built dams. Grazing cattle, including Highland cows, will also be used to help keep the scrub at an "optimum level" for bird species like warblers and turtle doves.

@DefraGovUK How did you propose to restore Nature across government land when it is @mod_dio policy not to have management plans for non-designated sites which is most of their estate? If they won't manage sites like Middlewick Ranges, your plan is not credible @SaveRanges
We have a new plan to restore nature across government-owned land.
Over half a million hectares of land will benefit from this coordinated approach, which will strengthen resilience and help protect public services from climate impacts.
