The #earthquake may have disrupted my remarks at the UN Security Council, but what I called for is far from earth shattering.
On behalf of all children in Gaza, I demanded action.
The world has the tools to address this crisis. It merely lacks the political will to use them.
#BREAKING: “You’re making the ground shake!” UN Security Council hears as mid-morning #earthquake interrupts briefing on the situation in the Middle East.
Grateful to have @UAEMissionToUN Ambassador Abushahab join our @SaveTheChildren Board of Trustees today to share insights on the humanitarian landscape and how governments and organizations can better work together to tackle today’s global challenges.

Enough for children in crises? Not even close.
Global humanitarian appeal: ~$33B — a rounding error compared to global defense spending.
Hoping other funders step up. Children can’t wait.
The @UN and the #UnitedStates on Monday formalized an agreement under which the US committed $2 billion in humanitarian assistance for global relief programmes.

The humanitarian crisis in #Sudan is worsening. Children are starving, hospitals destroyed and families face deadly attacks.
Thank you @SenatorRisch, @RepBrianMast , @RepGregoryMeeks, @ChrisCoons & @CoryBooker for bringing attention to this urgent crisis. Children cannot wait.

Everything can improve with digital and data!
@STC_Ventures + @ViebegM deliver low-cost medical equipment to public-private clinics in Rwanda, offering high-quality healthcare to the clinics which are run by nurse-owners.
All are digitized, with data continuously tracked.
Last-mile health care is still a challenge in rural Rwanda.
At Mahama refugee camp, Save the Children runs a health center with c-section services & blood delivered by drones—cutting hospital trips over an hour on bumpy roads.
Aid cuts have hugely impacted the lives of kids. We have noticed a significant increase in acute malnutrition among kids in Mahama since aid cuts took effect.
At Nkamira transit center, Save the Children runs a nutrition center, testing & treating kids for malnutrition daily.
Save the Children is supporting entrepreneurs in Mahama through our Kumwe Hub Initiatives.
We met a young woman who, after a competitive hiring process, runs our digital learning center.
We witnessed Rwanda's incredibly inclusive refugee policy after visits to the Nkamira Transit Center and Mahama Refugee Camp.
All refugees are given the right to work, study or start a business in the country.
Another challenge is the large # of kids out of school. Through our Zero out of School Children program, I met Alex & his mother. Alex dropped out of school for 5 years, but recently returned, joining our programs. He's aspiring to be a professional handball player or a Minister!
Though progress has been made in early childhood education and development, only 24% of children have access.
The government of Rwanda plans to increase this percentage to 60% by 2029.
75% percent of the country is below 25 years old. The energy and entrepreneurial spirit throughout the country is contagious.
I’m wrapping up a fantastic week in Rwanda where I met many children, families and Save the Children staff to learn about @SCIRwanda’s programming.
Here are my reflections from the trip ⬇️
Every war is a war against children.
18,500 children killed in Gaza—each with a name, a family, a future stolen.
We must see this for what it is and stop it. Ceasefire now. Let aid in.
18,500 of the 60,000 people killed in Israel’s war in Gaza are children.
Here are their names. 🧵 wapo.st/3U5KowA
Grateful for meaningful conversations this week with Members of Congress and their staff on bipartisan efforts to protect children living through crisis—from Syria and Afghanistan to the DRC and Myanmar.
