🚨 Help us save the Fleming Elementary basketball courts! 🏀 These courts are vital to the school - we need to stop the plan to long term lease them to a developer. 🙏

@VSB39 is proceeding to lease Fleming Elementary's play area to a developer, even though the school site will be needed for enrolling students as the school is at 107% capacity.

Thank you, Morgane, for being an inspiration and driving positive changes in education for parents and caregivers in Vancouver! 🌟
Do you think we need a new neighbourhood plan with more community services at Joyce Station? Fill out the form at collingwoodrecsociety.com/ to let us know. We will deliver all comments by hand to the City of Vancouver on September 26, 2024.

As this school year begins, parents want to know their kids are safe and focused on learning.
While we’re banning cell phones in schools so kids can focus in class, John Rustad is trying to ban textbooks on climate change.
The choice is stark.

Thanks to Vancouver DPAC leaders who constantly advocate for safe transportation routes ! @vanbc_mike

Come check out the lack of bike lanes and safe travel routes for kids on the east side while you're on this topic. We would welcome a discussion with you so that we can show you some accident stats.
Big thanks to @bcndp, @RachnaSinghNDP, and @adriandix for funding Vancouver schools! 🙏 @VSB39 is making progress too. @VanDPAC will keep amplifying parents' voices. 🏫 Don’t miss the @VanDPAC annual general meeting on June 20th at 7 PM. Mark your calendars! 📅 #VanSchools
Today's BC Parent Advisory Council conference & AGM presentation was fantastic! We're growing more confident in supporting parents & caregivers in advocacy. Yet, it's worrying that advocacy for students often falls solely on parents' shoulders. #Parenting #Advocacy #vanpoli

These stats are great but don't include VSB's Kindergarten waitlists, cut backs to mini schools, proposed changes to make child care less affordable in Vancouver, and the spike in ELL students in need of support.

Olympic Village, with no school, is a reminder of the VSB's failed Long Range Facilities Plan, not anticipating growth. Critical updates are needed now with BC's TOD Area legislation in play. VSB urgently needs to align facility planning with future needs #LRFPUpdate

It would be great if the VSB Trustees could pass a motion to include calculations of school childcare space in the next LRFP. This is especially critical at this time, with 25 areas being declared as TOD Areas, and the City passing re-zoning applications with 0-5 childcare.

By approving Vanness & Clive with only 10% units below market housing, the City of Vancouver is setting a new precedent to say that the 20% rule can be waived in East Van. Other areas have a requirement that 20% of units be below market.

@CityofVancouver approved 679 units at Vanness & Clive, only 31 units with three bedrooms, only 10% below market, which means 90% of suites will be rented at rates that most people living in East Van cannot afford. Affordable rent for 10% is not a sufficient amenity. #vanpoli

This is such a bad plan for the community. We need housing, but what is the point of adding more people to our community when there's not enough school spaces and amenities. Everyone knows Collingwood Neighborhood House is maxed out.
The results are in. 52,428 students for the 2023/24 school year @VSB39. An INCREASE of about 2,200 students since the 2021/22 year. @VSB39's projections for "decrease in future students" is not supported by Ministry data. #VanPACAdvocacy
