📢 @UCL: STOP the redundancies!

Look at the beautiful programme of teach-outs we have coming up this week and next! Kicking off with @trillingual and @scalderonharker tomorrow evening.

Today committee voted to seek @ucu permission to ballot members for local strike action over compulsory redundancies that remain on the table. We can't stand for the heavy-handed intimidatory tactics of @BirkbeckUoL pushing colleagues into 'voluntary' severance. #UCUrising

Solidarity with colleagues at Birkbeck facing compulsory redundancy. The UK HE sector is completely disfuctional. You and your students deserve better. @BirkbeckUoL @BirkbeckUCU
A new 📩message arrives from above: 4 of us need to resign, die or get sacked. Other departments are receiving their equivalents. So, we are at the depressing endgame that @BirkbeckUoL SMT have engineered. Awful.

Flexible, adaptable, agile. This is the language of job cuts and race-to-the-bottom short term contracts.
It's very familiar.

So angry to see this vandalism targetting our sibling #lifelonglearning institution
Proud to report: branch donation on way to support your fight!

Of the many sad things about working at Birkbeck at the moment, the staff's desperate quest to flee is among the worst. So much talent and energy spent trying to get clear of the blast zone of SMT's institutional detonation.

This picture shows so much. It’s a decade of friendship that has resulted in 5 BAs, 5 MAs, a PhD, a partial PhD, 3 potential PhDs - all at BBK. For varied reasons we all needed a chance and BBK gave it to us. BBK is the people in this picture and those who aren’t. #SaveBirkbeck
My absolute rock star friends that I met at Birkbeck during my BA had this piece commissioned for my 40th birthday. It features, me, my fiends Simon, Sean, Gemma @bradybirkbeck @bourke_joanna Annie Besant and George Birkbeck himself. @AdamDoughty1 thank you, it’s amazing!

Sad to read this. It's a travesty that Birkbeck is treating staff in this callous way while continuing to invest in expensive buildings and white elephant projects. Heartfelt solidarity to you and to all @savebbkgeo @BirkbeckUCU @SaveBirkbeck
