.@IPUparliament – As Tanzania hosted IPU gathering under the banner of “good governance and empowering communities,” @SuluhuSamia regime was abducting Maasai men, escalating its repression of Indigenous communities. Its goal? Clear Maasai from their ancestral lands to expand safari tourism and trophy hunting to 8 million visitors by 2030. @Oleshangay @Mittaloak @DenisMoses14 @MariaSTsehai @landislife @amazonwatch @MaasaiMisa2022 @Survival

Amidst all the claims & counterclaims around battlefield developments (@ACLEDINFO doesn’t still call this war btw), a few things are not being talked about. 1) that the entirety of Tigray remains under siege, and that people are likely dying of starvation and lack of access to
Government forces made further gains in Tigray yesterday, capturing Feres-May woreda after taking Hawzen & Nebelet days earlier. Overnight into 13 Oct, eyewitnesses reported a substantial convoy of ENDF tanks and heavy weaponry moving toward Fatsi & Zalambessa. bit.ly/4z1efIM

.@SuluhuSamia regime abducted & detained 5 Maasai men last week. Over 30 community members have been arrested in Ngorongoro over the past 2 months, while thousands of livestock have been confiscated in Loliondo. Human rights conditions in northern Tanzania are rapidly worsening. These are not isolated incidents, but part of a calculated campaign to silence Indigenous land defenders and force Maasai communities off their ancestral lands to make way for safari tourism and trophy hunting. @Mittaloak @Oleshangay @DenisMoses14 @MariaSTsehai @MaasaiMisa2022 @TheChanzo @IAMartin_ @Landislife @Roduza @davidpilling @KaamilAhmed @WedaeliC @WateteziTV @AJEPodcasts @LeMonde_Afrique

Nakuru County. One month apart. They wanted more space for pedestrians, so they cut down the beautiful jacaranda trees. Someone once said that corruption alone does not explain why our counties, and the country at large, struggle to develop but also inadequate education, limited exposure, and appointing people who have neither formal training nor practical knowledge of the departments they lead.

A sign public health messaging is failing.
People have started wearing masks because of Ebola? 😂

So what if it was imported? The situation should still be treated with every urgency. There are still contacts, still possibilities of transmission. @mfallah1969 - I would feel better if you were standing by our CS right now.
CS Duale: We don’t have an Ebola outbreak in Kenya. We have an imported Ebola incident.

This isn’t enough. What about quarantining the passengers on the plane? Airport workers? Every possible contact should be tracked and held at a safe facility for 21 days to be sure. No cutting corners.

Given someone with Ebola has gone through JKIA, @KenyaAirports what’s your cleaning process? And how fast have you acted?

This is what I'm most afraid of.
I interviewed health workers who were on the front lines of battling Ebola in Sierra Leone. You can’t predict what people will do to protect their loved ones, or how far they’ll go to be close to them if they think they may die.

Dr. Patrick Amoth: We believe that the patient knew that he was already ill and reached out to his relatives who transported him from the airport. It is potentially possible that the medication that he was taking masked some of his symptoms and gave a false positive screening

OK…now please give us similar detailed explanations on all the recent forest land degazettement as well 📢
STATUS OF KARURA FOREST AND MUTHAIGA GOLF CLUB      I.         Karura Forest was surveyed in the early 1920s with the Survey being registered in 1923.    II.         The Forest covering approximately 1,041.1 hectares was declared as a Forest Reserve vide Proclamation No. 44 of 1932. Later, like all the other state forests that were gazetted prior to independence, this forest was declared a Central Forest vide Legal Notice No. 174 of 20th  May 1964.  III.         Muthaiga Golf club claims ownership of LR No. 13134/3 which encroaches onto Karura gazetted Forest by 21.8Ha. Approx.  IV.         Owing to the difference in ownership positions between the two entities, a meeting will be held at KFS HQs aimed at seeking an amicable solution.

Why spend MILLIONS of shillings PREPARING for disaster when you can spend BILLIONS of shillings RECOVERING from disaster?
What’s being done to protect Nairobians from the heavy rains? Nobody should be dying in their cars during El Niño.
