This is great thread: Sam Huggard's favourite Aoteroa New Zealand compilations.
Four compilation albums featuring Dunedin-based artists/bands were recorded and released by Arclife. Jay Clarkson, one of the artists, tells the story of Arc Cafe: audioculture.co.nz/articles/…

Day 5 of fav #nzmusic compilations. Arclife, the 2nd of many gorgeous Arc Café comps. Slate's Iron Bird hauntingly beautiful. Best gig from an artist on the comp: Cloudboy, my first time seeing them, was at Arc's predecessor Apple & Eve in Stuart St, mid/late 1996. Just so lovely

The best education systems in the world are state run. The very best, Finland, is state run and free from kindy to uni. It's as simple as that.

Just went to a screening of the Chills movie in the library for NZ music month. Several times, when Martin Phillips appeared on screen, someone called out "weirdo". Felt a bit uncomfortable until I saw it was Martin Phillips himself.

We've just delivered a statement of concern to the Vietnamese Embassy in Wellington, protesting the arrest of climate activist Hoang Thi Minh Hong. We’re calling for the release of Hong Hoang, and four other Vietnamese climate change activists who have been unfairly detained.

After doubling their membership to >70% & giving notice to strike, @EtuUnion members at Asahi beverages ratified a 2yr deal.
Members won $5/hr; that's >23% increase for the majority & 10.2% for the highest paid.

The stakes are high for these staunch workers. They do skilled manufacturing jobs. The majority shouldn't be just above minimum wage.
Turns out they also are skilled at drums and picket line dancing ✊🏽
All power and solidarity to the workers at ETEL, standing up for living wages. You can't build an advanced manufacturing sector on a base of poverty.

Totally agree. This was in our immigration policy announcement on 4 August. Select committee has an inquiry underway in to migrant exploitation and I expect the finding to be that this is probably the single most important thing that should be done.

Tautoko 🙌🏽 These first steps are necessary to start justly transitioning wāhine into secure livelihoods.
From here, we need truly social procurement criteria for govt spend, including collective agreements protecting meaningful, secure incomes & recognition of unpaid work. ✊🏽💗
