#JCcrashes 😡 Montgomery & Merseles. This morning a high schooler crossing Montgomery was hit by a motorcycle. This is an important school route, but Montgomery & Merseles is wide, fast, and dangerous. The crossing guard often tells students to run when crossing. /

#JCcrashes At this same intersection, on Sunday June 7th, a cyclist was also hit here crossing Montgomery with the green light. A turning driver from Merseles did not yield and crashed into him resulting in a destroyed bicycle and injuries to the cyclist.

#JCcrashes Good thing this driver in Lincoln Park didn't hit a person. Jersey City and Hudson County need to start taking safety near schools and parks seriously by actively preventing situations like this through safe street design and enforcement. Quick builds, not studies.
#JCcrashes A cyclist was hit while crossing Communipaw Ave at the Mallory Ave Lincoln Park entrance tonight. Thankfully, injuries were fairly minor, but severe damage to the bike. Motorists turning left rarely yield to pedestrians and cyclists in the crosswalk here.

#JCcrashes Newark & 6th St. Yesterday a white sedan was following too closely in the rain + crashed into the vehicle in front of it. Newark Ave has many pedestrian crossings. Drivers must be prepared to stop at all times. Distracted driving can easily cause crashes like this.

Jersey City when? Halloween is the deadliest day of the year for pedestrians, and we know how to make things safer for the festivities. @JerseyCity @SolomonforJC
NYC is opening 160 car-free (but treat-filled) streets and plazas to enjoy fun and safe fall festivities this spooky season. Find one near you at nyc.gov/trickorstreets.

every city should do this. Halloween is, by far, the most dangerous day of the year for child pedestrians. making streets car-free isn’t just a fun perk for trick-or-treating, it’s a critical life-saving transportation policy

Look at this recent hit-and-run in Newark, New Jersey that claimed two lives. 👇 National media reported on this incident. NJDOT and NJMVC keep designing deadly traffic light intersections and give licenses to these criminals. It is a SYSTEMIC problem created by these two state agencies. @GovSherrillNJ @DawnFantasia_NJ

I'm not the first person to say this, but if we're going to talk about municipal revenue in Jersey City, so many of the parking meters have been broken for years. Especially in the Journal Square area. Combined with minimal enforcement...

I’m proud to announce that the new stop signs on 1st & Brunswick and 3rd & Brunswick are finally here — just in time for back to school! Thank you to the Department of Infrastructure for your hard work and all the community advocates for pushing to get this done.

With the start of the new school year, President of SafeStreetsJC Talya Schwartz wrote about how a lack of good car alternatives to get to school is creating car congestion that is unsafe and spiraling out of control. The way out? Safe routes to school + bus priority🚶🚲🚌

We're overhauling 116th Street to make your bus faster: 2.5 miles of new bus lanes. Queue jumps that give buses a green light before other vehicles at intersections. Protected bike lanes. 35,000 square feet of new pedestrian space. This redesign will speed up commutes for more than 65,000 daily bus riders across 10 routes and improve safety for everyone on 116th Street. Because you should be spending less time in traffic and more time enjoying the greatest city in the world.

#JCcrashes 😡 Hit-and-run last night on Newark Ave near Coles St. Cyclist was biking down Newark Ave when hit by a black SUV which drove away after the cyclist landed on their hood. Looking for any information about the driver. reddit.com/r/jerseycity/comm…

SafeStreetsJC released an op-ed describing ways for Jersey City to increase revenue from parking reform. One way is increased fees at parking meters. Did you know that Jersey City’s parking meter fees are usually only $0.75 and haven’t been updated in years? /

Low meter fees: 👎 Discourage turnover in high demand areas, making it harder to find parking 👎 Increase traffic from drivers circling and double-parked vehicles 👎 Reduce safety when drivers park illegally at corners /

👎 And in the midst of a budget crisis, they shortchange the city of revenue, increasing the need for property tax increases on all residents ⏱️🚗 It's time Jersey City updates its parking meter fees 🚗⏱️

People are noticing our newly-launched Traffic Enforcement Unit 👀 The Traffic Enforcement Unit is not only keeping residents safe, but generating revenue to solve our financial crisis. Many of these dangerous drivers are non-residents who use our streets as a cut-through.

This is a fantastic idea because it raises revenue off of a negative externality (congestion and limited parking caused by on-street parking that is too cheap) rather than off the backs of home owners and renters through property tax hikes.
