AI was just used to design 16 new viruses. While some laud this as progress, it can also be a massive biosecurity risk. In the wrong hands, this could have catastrophic consequences. tinyurl.com/mw8jnnkz

It's really too bad, @dallascowboys . With that offense, you would be a Superbowl caliber team if your defense could make even a single stop. But they can't, and so, you aren't. Allowing Dowdle to average 6 yards per carry? Cmon now.

Canada is home to world-class scientists and researchers. We have a unique opportunity to recruit top US talent amid their recent major research cuts. What's our plan? 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

You saw it. Mark Carney has been sworn in as Canada’s 24th Prime Minister today. I had him in the red chair 13 years ago and had a sense that this would be a part of his journey. It’s interesting to see how people’s paths unfold, especially when you get a glimpse of their drive early on.  During that same interview, we dug into some big topics, including the challenges of navigating economic policy and international relations, particularly with the U.S. With tariffs on a lot of people's minds, here’s a revisit with this quick clip.

The US steps down from leading the world in public health, so Canada is stepping up. Vaccination saves lives and Canada is showing the world their value. I'm not very proud to be an American these days, but I'm very proud to live in Canada. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Canada’s partnering with @gavi to help provide lifesaving vaccines to 500 million more kids around the world. That’s half a billion kids growing up safe and healthy, protected against deadly diseases. Vaccines save lives. Canada’s proud to do our part.

Brought my dad to work today. A retired union painter, all he did was stare at my degrees 😊 Degrees that wouldn’t be possible without his emphasis on prioritizing education and working to afford the schools I attended. Thank you, Dad😊

Weird. I can access NCBI/Pubmed (from NYC). A friend of mine who is currently in France can as well (but has a US phone). But several of my Austrian colleagues have no access. What is going on here?

Very happy to team up with @SafeFoodCanuck on this Perspective piece advocating for Indigenous privacy rights and genomic data governance in wastewater-based surveillance. Absolute pleasure to work with @licinio, EIC @GenomPsychiatry.
🚰🧬 Wastewater surveillance is a powerful tool for public health—but is it also a risk to Indigenous privacy rights? A new study explores the ethical and legal challenges of genomic surveillance. ⚖️ #IndigenousRights #MelissaPerreault #LawrenceGoodridge 🧵 – A THREAD 👇

I’m American and have always been a reliable USA-chanting patriot. I have lived in Canada for almost 4 years now and while it’s lovely here and I’ve been so kindly welcomed, I have never truly felt Canadian. Until today. Team Canada 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Canada’s retaliation plan: 25% tariffs on $30B of US goods starting Tuesday. Ramps up to $125B in 21 days so Canadian companies can find alternatives.

There is a new Ebola virus outbreak in Uganda, an ongoing Marburg virus outbreak in Tanzania, and a recently resolved Marburg virus outbreak in Rwanda. Now is the time to be doubling down on global infectious diseases research, preparedness, and response plans. tinyurl.com/2cv758u6

We're in the middle of respiratory virus season, and while COVID-19 (blue) and RSV (purple) appear to be starting to decline in Canada, influenza (orange) activity remains steady.
