🧵: Let 2024 be the year for reviving deeper solidarity between drug user and sex worker movements. We have lots to gain and share between us: we both know that criminalization hurts our health and everyone’s health
Some extra love for the Harm Reduction Hub from our Drugs Coordinator @SSchlossenberg Sex work and drug user activism is so interlinked - we need a safe space for all of us to organise and mobilise. More submissions on why a hub is needed coming soon 🛸

Affordable space is scarce, but solidarity isn’t. This partnership grew from shared politics and community care.

We're joining forces and opening a shared space for harm reduction, radical literature and collective care, run by and for communities pushed to the margins: sex workers, queer & trans people, migrants, and people who use drugs.

Our parent org, @Release_drugs got banned on instagram. We're trying to get it reinstated, and we need your help! Here are some instructions on reporting missing accounts, which can help raise our cause to Meta. Please help if you have an IG acct ⤵️ xitter.cf/SSchlossenberg/status/…
Release insta got deleted!! Please, if you are on instagram go make a report to the tune of “Harm reduction charity account wrongfully removed - the account promotes harm reduction and thus mentions drugs, but it does not promote drug use. See release.org.uk for more”

Donate to the People’s Letters (formerly the Scarlett Letters) booksellers hardship fund. The way the workers have been treated is awful, simply because they asked for fixed hours and fair conditions. If you want to support the workers, put ur £ here: crowdfunder.co.uk/p/support-…
On Tuesday (1st July) I was one of the workers sleeping here, while we occupied peacefully - all we demanded was that the stock be donated to us so that it could continue serving the community, as CIC assets legally must. Instead a group forced entry at 4am to take it.

For those panicking about the purported oxycodone pills found in flour bags in Gaza— Here is some basic education on illicit drug markets that might help. 1. By definition, you cannot become addicted to OxyContin, or oxycodone after taking it once. Period. The definition of addiction is continued use of a drug over time despite escalating consequences. So someone who accidentally consumes a couple of oxy pills will not become addicted. Addiction risks increase when people take Oxy over a prolonged period of time and even then the iatrogenic addiction rate (accidental addiction resulting from a medical mistake) is only 4-6%. 2. Risk of overdose of Oxycodone when taken in small doses is low for adults unless they take large amounts or mix the drug with other drugs such as benzodiazepines (which they don’t have access to in Gaza). It is of course important that small children do not ingest the drugs. 3. Pressed pills that are smuggled are dangerous because we don’t know what is in them unless they are tested. And no— the number stamped on it doesn’t tell us anything. Most pills that are smuggled are counterfeit pills and yes people who manufacture drugs also stamp their supplies. So, in sum, unless the pills are tested, we don’t even know that they are oxy. 4. People who deal drugs, make drugs, or smuggle drugs do not give drugs away for free. So the pills found in the flour bags were not meant to be distributed to the public. From what I have seen in other cases, this looks to me like someone or some entity in Israel has been trying to smuggle the pressed pills into Gaza likely to the organized crime syndicate that Israel has been funding and arming. Why don’t I think it is purposeful contamination of the flour supply? There are plenty of cheaper, easier, & more lethal ways to contaminate flour than to put oxy in it and flour isn’t eaten raw. It is cooked, which would change the drug makeup. Basic chemistry.
