More than 20 people died while experiencing homelessness in Camden during 2025, marking an increase for the second year in a row; @daisyclague reports in this week's CNJ. Camden saw 22 deaths in 2025, compared to 17 in 2024 and 9 in 2023 – even while the number of deaths in London as a whole declined last year. Since 2017, the Museum of Homelessness (MoH) has documented deaths on the streets and in temporary accommodation across the UK for its Dying Homeless Project. Its latest research found that Camden was one of the five local authorities – along with Bristol, Brighton and Hove, Edinburgh, and Stirling – nationwide with the highest rate of homeless deaths relative to the population.

The Telegraph are hypocrites. Smearing people who call out Israel while publishing antisemitic and Islamophobic cartoons. Glad we are boycotting them until they’ve apologised.

The racist abuse my friend and colleague @MothinAli has been subject to over the last week is appalling and unacceptable. Enough is enough - our party won't be engaging with the Telegraph until they apologise for their racist and antisemitic cartoon. Mothin - we're with you.
The UK Green Party has said it will not engage with The Telegraph after the newspaper published a "racist and antisemitic" cartoon depicting deputy leader Mothin Ali (pictured) preparing to devour the severed head of party leader Zack Polanski. “The Telegraph is pushing Islamophobia and antisemitism to try and divide our movement, but it won’t work," Ali said in a statement shared with The New Arab. "Zack, myself and our entire party are united in support of Palestinians and against the racist drivel the Telegraph spouts.”

Thursdays result, though of course disappointing, was an inevitable consequence of a tough Labour squeeze in the face of a Green Party that had scared voters into backing the incumbent to prevent a Polanski win. I don’t see it as a reflection of the conversations we had on the doors or the campaign we ran. I had the chance to pen a few words before the campaign ended and I stand by them even more so after Thursday. libdems.substack.com/p/winni…

And Sagal has the second lowest vote total of any sitting MP in England and Wales. Only James McMurdock has received fewer votes in England Wales to sit in Parliament. Sagal got 17.44% of all the votes of registered electors. This is the lowest ever in the constituency this century. The "this is a by-election" refrain is undercut by the fact that the Labour Party ran easily the biggest ground and GOTV campaign this constituency has seen in over a decade. It's also during a new-PM honeymoon. Labour's vote has been on a historic slide both in local and Parliamentary elections since people started realising what Starmerism was and how it had transformed the Party. Sagal, herself, had her vote slashed by 33% in her local seat just five months ago. Burnham has slowed but not halted the slide - Sagal has the lowest ever percentage majority in this constituency, which had been around for half a century. If Healey and Mahmood get their way, that slide begins again; if people are poorer in real terms at the end of the Parliament than they were in 2024, as seems likely, it'll slide further, with only a rump of affluent middle class professionals left. If Sagal is finally scrutinised here, or tucks in behind Burnham when he delivers the "bad news" part of his platform next month, disaffection will grow. People here will not take well to another Labour MP who votes and advocates to the right of the constituency's values. It'll then be up to whatever progressive candidate stands in the next election to turn that disaffection into a vote to replace a Party that is no longer much loved here. Sagal was elected on an extremely soft vote, vulnerable to an insurgent challenge. I wouldn't bet much money on Sagal being anything more than a one-term MP. This Labour right boor can crow all he likes, doing a little victory lap. But it's the victory of his type of politician in the Labour Party that has made people dump it in droves.
He got less votes in central London than Count Binface got in Clacton.

Where does your family’s suffering fit into the mental-health awareness they are promoting? It's very easy to knock up a throw away scheduled canvas post, it's a lot harder to explain to a family why their son was under that forensic tent. I guess that's why you haven't. #NoMoreFalls #Holborn #TheJoshuaTest #WorldMentalHealthDay @ISHA_London – at Camden Town, London

I am angry tonight. Because today ICE shot a New Yorker. They shot a New Yorker while his five year old child was in the car. ICE makes this city less safe. We want them out. Now.
