Lipoprotein(a) is finally getting national attention. Our founder Katherine Wilemon (@KAWilemon) and Family Heart Ambassador Brian Farrington share their stories in this powerful @washingtonpost piece on this underrecognized genetic risk. #KnowLpa

This #LpaAwarenessDay we're asking you to consider giving $20 in honor of the 20% with high Lp(a).
To continue our work, we must raise funds from our community. The more donors who give and the more dollars we raise, the more we can do.

Exactly 🏆! Ethnic differences in Lp(a) level and distribution can be partly explained by differences in LPA size and single nucleotide polymorphisms within and surrounding the gene locus. Read more on this topic on our journal! #KnowLpa #LpaAwarenessDay

Do you know what partly explains ethnic differences in Lp(a) plasma concentrations? 🤔

A1: Lp(a) looks like LDL cholesterol with some key differences. LDL has a single apolipoprotein B attached to its surface. Lp(a), however, has an apolipoprotein B attached to its surface, and that apolipoprotein B has an apolipoprotein(a) attached to it. #KnowLpa

🫀Those with ⤴️ Lp(a) have 2-4 X greater risk of early heart disease or stroke
🫀Elevated Lp(a) is common: occurs in 1 in 5 people!
🫀Sadly few people know their Lp(a)! Ask for this to be checked in you!

New clinical trial by @Amgen for people with high Lp(a) and ASCVD to assess the effect of treatment with investigational drug olpasiran, which is designed to lower Lp(a), on the risk for major cardiovascular events. #KnowLpa
