A lot of workplace culture died after Covid and never recovered. Yes, working from home is probably bad for you as a whole - but Iโve noticed in my own workplace that nobody uses the environment as a social launchpad anymore - which should be its biggest utility.
I remember in pre Covid times there were at least moments of serendipitous fun. In this post Covid era rife with economic pessimism, I get the sense that people are generally afraid to take any sort of liberties in the workplace, even if itโs something as benign as taking a long lunch.
Fridays used to have a good energy to them. Now I dread them. You can hear a pin drop in my office most Fridays. Small talk has been killed in the name of productivity. I know this isnโt all workplaces but I have a feeling Iโm not alone here.
If youโre lucky enough to work somewhere that hasnโt been managed-to-death, count your blessings. Otherwise I am forced conclude that working from home is the lesser evil, even if not by much.

Jihadism is a global ideology.
There are a lot of attacks on a daily basis in Africa and the Middle East and these gets little coverage in the media. Especially the ones in Africa, e.g. Mali, Chad, Congo, Sudan, Nigeria.

Definitely worth following @TrackJihadists if youโre not already.
The mainstream media wonโt expose Jihadists. They refuse.
They are all but silent on Islamic extremism while pointing the finger elsewhere.

Israeli settlers are out of control, because the Israeli government allows them to be. And while attacks on diplomats or journalists command attention, as they should, this happens unnoticed to Palestinian farmers all the time.
#Breaking: European diplomats, including French and Polish representatives, who went to the West Bank to observe the olive harvest, have been violently assaulted by Israeli settlers.

Iโm a mum whose son is very intelligent and gentle, and also has a diagnosis of schizophrenia.
The sheer cruelty in comments left on posts about this heartbreaking incident has reduced me and a whole community to tears. Shame on every single person who has left a vile comment about this awful incident. A young man has died. His family could read your words. Have some basic human decency.
Psychosis means a complete break from reality. Unless youโve cared for someone through that crisis, you cannot
understand the trauma that comes with that..its horrific. Watching your child suffer, day after day, is beyond painful. Then having to witness society ridicule and dehumanise people with serious mental illness is sickening.
Schizophrenia can affect someone you love. Remember that before you leave your next cruel comment.

The death of William Chapman has brought into sharp focus the prejudice, hatred & lack of compassion that people living with mental illness continue to endure.

Today I went to a select committee hearing on AI. A few interesting things came out of it, but what really stuck with me was the behaviour of the MPs
They werenโt paying attention
At one point I counted 6 of the 13 MPs on the committee looking at their phones. And not in that way you do when youโre quickly checking something - two stared at their phones for over half an hour. Several others left before the end
Many people think AI is the most important thing in the world. The MPs were warned there was a 50/50 chance it might destroy humanity! Youโd think thatโd be enough to make you take your chance to listen to experts and key players on the topic - apparently not

Ukraineโs freedom is not President Trumpโs to bargain away.
He is wrong to ease sanctions on Russian diesel, wrong to blame President Zelensky for prolonging Putinโs war, and wrong to undermine a nation fighting for its right to exist. Russia is the aggressor. Always has been. Reward Russia, and we should expect to see more aggression, including from other countries. We can also kiss goodbye to any just and lasting peace.
This is why Conservatives have stood with Ukraine against Putin. Ukraineโs future belongs to Ukrainians. They alone have the right to choose their president, and we stand with President Zelensky because he fights not for himself, but for the survival of his country and his people.

Iโve had a lot of people asking me about the botched execution of Christa Pike in Tennessee, as well as the upcoming execution by firing squad thatโs supposed to be livestreamed. Having spent nearly 20 years on death row, my thoughts and feelings about these things are so vast that I sometimes struggle to find a place to begin. I became close friends with a man who had committed murder. He was like a brother to me. I once watched him break down crying, trembling as he told me he wished he was as evil as the world believed him to be, because then he wouldnโt have to care about what heโd done. Fifteen years later, he was still having nightmares about it. I know in my soul that he would never hurt another person again. But Iโve also watched a man being stabbed to death in prison. I cried for days afterward, and something inside me was changed forever. I learned that some people are capable of extraordinary transformation, while others remain capable of terrible violence even behind prison walls. There are no simple answers here. No slogans or political arguments that can adequately address the complexity of human beings, guilt, punishment, and suffering.
But there is one thing I want to say about the upcoming execution by firing squad. Donโt watch it. Whatever you believe about the death penalty, even if you think the person being executed deserves to die, donโt watch it. You cannot witness a human being being killed and simply walk away unchanged. What you see becomes part of you. It follows you into places you never expected it to reach. There are things I witnessed in prison that I would give anything to forget, things that still cast a shadow over my life decades later. Thereโs a difference between understanding that terrible things happen in the world and deliberately making yourself a spectator to them. I donโt have all the answers about justice, punishment, or forgiveness. But I do know that killing another human being should never become so ordinary that we turn it into something to watch from the comfort of our living rooms.

In awarding this yearโs #NobelPeacePrize, the Norwegian Nobel Committee wants to remind the world that the rule of law โ national and international โ underpins the system we have set up to ensure peace and resolve conflicts non-violently. Peace requires justice.
History has shown that a world operating without the rule of law is unjust, unwise and inhumane. The judges โ those who guard the thin red line between order and chaos โ are therefore highly deserving of our praise. But today, as these same judges are sanctioned, and their institutions are attacked, we need people of courage, vision and determination โ qualities that 2026 peace laureate Navi Pillay demonstrates in her work on the bench.

My speech at the UN Human Rights Council:
I grew up in Yemen. I know how our Arab rulers teach us to blame all of our troubles on the Jews. But our problem in the Middle East is not Israel.
It is our Islamist dictatorships that brutalize our people, then offer us Israel as a scapegoat.
