New channels, same mission: localizing development priorities to drive action and impact.
See you over there! 📍
🇹🇳 Today marked a milestone in turning Tunisia’s ambitions into reality.
National ministries, municipalities, local and regional representatives and development partners came together through the Partnership Platform on Localizing the SDGs to focus on moving from strong development plans to delivery on the ground.
The ambition is clear: connect local ambitions with national priorities, and turn them into territorial pathways that partners can support and finance.
The Platform advances this through National SDG Localization Frameworks, connecting existing institutions, plans, budgets, partnerships and data into a coherent framework for implementation.
🇹🇳🤝🇮🇹 The Tunisia-Italy exchange brought together Italy’s experience in policy coherence for sustainable development and Tunisia’s ambition to translate its development plans into transformative projects on the ground.
Anchored in the @Local2030 Coalition, the Partnership Platform is a joint operational initiative @MASE_IT and @UNHABITAT
💬 The Platform is where these exchanges between local and national governments take place. Join the conversation!

🏘️🌍 Happy #WorldHabitatDay!
As UN Secretary-General @antonioguterres reminds us, adequate housing is connected to progress across the SDGs.
And that progress has to happen locally. Housing is where poverty, basic services, climate resilience and inclusion meet, and where global ambition must translate into local action.
With 2.8 billion people facing housing inadequacy, delivering #AdequateHousingForAll will take national and local governments, communities and partners working together.

🌍 #UrbanOctober is here!
For 31 days, cities, communities, governments and partners around the world will come together to exchange ideas and take action for a better urban future.
Urban challenges are experienced locally. From access to adequate housing to climate change and growing inequalities, delivering sustainable development means translating global ambitions into solutions that respond to local realities and priorities.
This October, join the conversation: host an event, share a local solution or take part in activities happening around the world.

🌍 Can we localize what we can’t see?
Across Asia and the Pacific, only around 55% of SDG indicators are supported by sufficient data, with major gaps in data broken down by income, gender, disability and geography.
A new policy brief from @UNESCAP explores what this means for #SDGLocalization - and how geospatial, citizen-generated and more integrated urban data can help reveal gaps that city-wide averages often hide.
But technology is only part of the picture. Fragmented data, limited local capacity and unequal access to digital infrastructure also shape what cities can see, and act on.
Do we have the right data to understand what is happening locally?

🌍 What’s shaping the conversation on #SDGLocalization?
There’s a lot happening across cities and territories, and keeping up with the ideas, evidence and experiences shaping localization isn’t always easy.
One place following these conversations is #MunicipalTimes, a publication of the @UJInstitute, an initiative of @OnCities2030, developed with @uclg_org, connecting debates across local realities and global agendas.
Its latest #MunicipalTimesInsights has plenty for the localization community to dig into 👀 . From multilevel governance and the role of local governments in global decision-making to the evolving role of VLRs and VSRs.
One figure caught our attention: 500+ VLRs have now been completed by 274 cities in 87 countries. Increasingly, these reviews are going beyond reporting to inform planning, budgets, local data and participation.

Local data tells us where progress is happening. Local voices help shape what progress looks like. 📍
A recent @IISD_news analysis on women’s empowerment in Egypt shows why both matter: understanding different local realities and ensuring women’s voices inform the decisions that affect them.
That’s #SDGLocalization in practice. 🌍

🏠 If we want to close the housing gap, we need to localize the SDGs.
In Surigao City 🇵🇭, the #LocalizeToRealize programme is showing how community priorities can shape housing, services & local planning.
For the Sama Bajau community, #SDGLocalization is helping turn local priorities into safer, culturally appropriate homes, better access to services & a stronger voice in local decision-making.

✅Building the global evidence base to accelerate SDG localization.
As the world looks towards the 2027 SDG Summit, demonstrating the impact of SDG localization is just as important as delivering it. Stronger territorial evidence is essential to shape policy, guide investment and systematically embed local priorities into national and global agendas.
The Global Stocktake on SDG Localization is bringing together decade of experience into a shared evidence base for SDG localization. Through harmonized indicators, country solutions and foresight analysis, it will inform the process of the Local2030 Coalition as well as the Inter-agency and Expert Group on SDG Indicators, ultimately shaping the design of the post-2030 development framework.
Building on the momentum of #WUF13, this process was advanced at #HLPF2026 where UN-Habitat co-organized the Towards a Global Stocktake on SDG Localisation – Achieving SDG 11 through a Territorial Approach with the OECD and the United Nations Local2030 Coalition and the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Next milestone 9th OECD Roundtable on Cities and Regions for the SDGs this September, stay tuned for more information!
