We are grateful to the Scottish Government for convening this vital conversation and for keeping debt justice high on Scottish, UK and global agendas
Climate Action Secretary, Gillian Martin, hosted a Debt Justice Roundtable with @SCIAF and partners from Malawi and Zambia.
Countries shouldn't have to choose between servicing debt and protecting their people from the climate crisis.

The UK aid watchdog @icai_uk has today released a report warning of mounting global pressures as the UK reshapes its approach to aid ā a lot of which we agree with.
Head to our website to read Chair @SarahChampionMPās comment in full: committees.parliament.uk/comā¦

ALT āAs we get to grips with aid budgets falling worldwide, both my Committee and the UKās aid watchdog have now raised serious concerns about the impact on some of the worldās poorest people, particularly in fragile and conflict affected states. But the fact remains; currently we only have the

ALT skeleton of the Governmentās new approach to aid spending. The IDCās future of aid report called for Ministers to put flesh on the bones and I hope that ICAIās new report will further focus FCDO minds on this task.ā Photo alongside the quote shows a photo of the Chair Sarah Champion MP, with bobbed curly hair and wearing a white jacket.

We are disappointed with the Government's aid spending allocation announcement, which pits development spending against defence spending. As Chair @SarahChampionMP told the Foreign Secretary, development spending is often a first form of defence.
šØ Today the UK Government has set out further details of its aid budget cuts, the bilateral aid to Africa will be cut by almost Ā£900 million by 2028 as part of devastating changes to Britainās international aid spending.

"The UK must restore the aid budget, and use its G20 Presidency to find solutions that bridge the gap between the huge need for aid and available resources - such as reforming the system that bleeds Africa dry in unfair debt repayments.
