📋 NIOSH Wants Your Feedback! We’re helping spread the word about a survey from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). @NIOSH is looking for feedback to better understand the occupational safety and health information needs of workers, employers, and other stakeholders. Your input can help NIOSH better understand what information and resources are most useful. We encourage our first responder community to take a few minutes to participate! 🔗 Take the survey here: airc.cdc.gov/surveys/?s=7NCY… Together we are Stronger 💪

This is a great read: "the more we learn, the more we realize just how complex the #firefighter #exposure story really is – because every fire creates a unique chemical cocktail." Thankful for the researchers doing this work! #OccupationalExposure
🔥NEW READ: Firefighters are exposed to complex mixtures of chemicals on the fireground. But what happens when those chemicals interact inside the body? Some effects may add up. Others may amplify each other. And in many cases, researchers still don’t have all the answers. Dr. Crystal Sweeney of the Illinois Fire Service Institute explores the science behind firefighter exposure mixtures and why continued research matters: crackyl.com/article/the-cock… What questions do you have about chemical exposures on the fireground? #firefighterhealth #firefightersafety #occupationalhealth #fireservice #IFSIResearch

Reno is getting hammered this fire season. Last week, 140k acres burned. Today the #HawkFire is already over 2500 acres. It's not even red flag conditions. This is not normal.

The job changes you. The calls. The losses. The mistakes. The lessons. You can let those experiences harden you, or you can use them to build perspective, resilience and purpose. Resilience isn't always bouncing back. Sometimes it's bouncing forward. Read more on Firefighter Nation: ow.ly/yZwu50ZCuo9

Working on a budget request? Check out this report. #firefighters #FireService #training
More than 1,300 firefighters answered @FireRescue1 's fifth annual #WhatFirefightersWant survey. This year the subject was #training, and the results say something most of the #fireservice already suspected. The motivation is there. Nine out of ten respondents earned a certification in the past five years. The system around that drive is where it breaks down — scheduling, staffing, facilities, and no consistent way to tell whether the drill actually made anyone better. Every training officer who has stood in front of a budget committee knows how hard it is to fund a feeling. It's much easier to fund a number. Bring this report to your next funding request. 🔗Link in the comments.

#Firefighters work long tours - in the heat, extended assignments fighting #fires in neighboring communities, responding to back country rescues - they do it all - day & night. Recovery is important, and so is tracking what they're exposed to - it goes far beyond #smoke.
🚒 How Full Is Your Tank? Every tour, the same gauge: 🟢 8+ hours sleep 🟡 2nd consecutive shift 🟠 4th OT 🔴 Pediatric call 🔴 Mandatory callback 🔴 95° heat The gauge is low. 🚨 You check your air before every fire. ⛽ When's the last time you checked yourself? 🔗in comment
