Thank you to St. Mark Catholic Church for filling our hearts once again with your kindness. 💙 Every year you take the time to create cruiser kits that remind our deputies they are supported and appreciated. These small but thoughtful comforts mean more than you know on long and unpredictable days. We are truly grateful for your continued generosity and the care you show our team.

Compassion, connection, and community support: that’s what brought Tim Burke back to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. After deputies repeatedly responded with care during his wife Penelope’s health challenges, Tim says their compassion “touched me to my core.” Today, he’s honoring Penelope’s memory by pledging major support to our Wellness Unit’s Family Support program, helping strengthen the wellbeing of DCSO employees and their families. We’re deeply thankful for Tim, and proud to keep Penelope’s legacy alive through the family focused programs his generosity will support.

WRONG-WAY DRIVER STOPPED ON I-25 At approximately a.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to reports of a vehicle traveling the wrong way on I-25 in Castle Rock. When deputies attempted a stop, the driver accelerated to more than 80 mph while continuing against traffic. Working with the Lone Tree Police Department, deputies shut down the interstate ahead of the vehicle and safely ended the incident with a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI). The suspect was taken into custody without incident. Deputies observed multiple indicators of possible impairment. Charges are pending. During their investigation, deputies discovered the male suspect, not from Douglas County, has an extensive criminal history in Colorado, including 7 prior Driving Under the Influence or Driving While Ability Impaired charges, spanning over decades. At the time of this incident, records show the suspect had a suspended license. "Wrong-way drivers create an immediate and potentially catastrophic danger for everyone on the roadway. I'm proud of the quick decisions, teamwork, and professionalism demonstrated by our deputies and our partners at the Lone Tree Police Department. Their actions helped prevent what could have been a tragic outcome and kept our community safe. Let me be clear: we will not tolerate impaired driving in Douglas County." - Sheriff Weekly Watch the dash camera video to see the response that helped keep our roads safe.

Puppet shows, big smiles, and important safety lessons! 🐶🎭 Our Community Resource Officer, Corporal McKnight, recently put on a special puppet show for our local preschoolers and kindergartners! As a certified puppeteer, Corporal McKnight knows exactly how to capture their imaginations while teaching vital safety skills. With a little help from everyone's favorite crime-fighting companion, McGruff the Crime Dog, he taught the kids stranger danger, recognizing emergencies, and when to Call 911. The kids were completely captivated from start to finish! We’re so grateful to Corporal McKnight for making safety education both fun and memorable for our youngest community members. 🌟

Operation Tag Sweep is complete, and the results speak for themselves. During a two-week enforcement effort, Douglas County deputies conducted nearly 2,000 proactive traffic stops, issued 994 citations, and gave 221 written warnings for expired registrations. Every single day of the operation, at least one traffic stop involving an expired plate led to the discovery of a more serious offense. As a result, deputies made arrests related to drugs, illegal firearms, and other criminal activity. That is exactly why proactive enforcement matters. Take a look at some of the plates that Deputy Kerrick and other patrol deputies spotted during the operation. Believe it or not, these plates dating back to 2022 are not the oldest ones we found. 👀 We'll share those soon. Operation Tag Sweep may be over, but expired plate enforcement continues every day in Douglas County. Renew your registration and avoid a citation.

DougCo Alert Update: This morning, our deputies received a call to perform a welfare check on someone who allegedly reported having explosives. Our deputies quickly found this individual and took them into custody near Metzler Ranch Park. Out of an abundance of caution, we sent out a DougCo Alert for community members to shelter in place within a quarter mile of where this stop happened. The alert lasted for just over 20 minutes while deputies worked to make sure there was no public safety threat, given the nature of the report. A nearby school was on fall break and not impacted because of this. This suspect is now facing charges for false reporting of explosives. Thank you for signing up for DougCo Alert and staying in the know when calls impact your neighborhoods. **All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
