Sadly @SorchaEastwood you’ve named reality- shocking what people expect victim to look like&behave-their ignorance of the harm abuse does&how it affects each person, the judgements& ‘nimby’ attitude, poor insight to legal processes used to ‘justify’ their shameful posts-stand firm

The last days have shown that there is a sick culture of victim blaming, a hierarchy of victims in some people's eyes and an utter depravity towards women in public life. But mostly, it shows that you will not be believed when you step forward. It shows that even when you bear your soul, it isn't enough 3/
I find it a privilege to inspire and support the next generation of Social Workers. My recent student wrote a poem for me about what that support meant for them and provided consent to share

This is deplorable: Social Work needs robust funding and systematic change to allow for core relationship based practice and therapeutic interventions. @healthdpt

Derry Women’s Rally: There’s the usual comments under this post about migrants & refugees. The fact is, the vast majority of victims of femicide in NI are murdered by men they know.
These male commenters could have done with showing up on Friday & actually listening to women.
Grateful to @CatherineMcdai8 for giving people a chance to rally against recent attacks against women in Derry, and for the invitation to speak.
The issue is urgent and universal, but also brutally local for this region.
This week marks a significant academic achievement for the OU Southern Trust Social Work students. It is a privilege to be able to support them as they embark on their journey to work in a fulfilling career as social workers. @JohnMDArcy @AmandaShields86 @NI_SCC @colm_mccafferty

Social workers from across teams in the @SouthernHSCT welcomed students from surrounding schools & colleges to showcase the profession. Thanks to everyone for visiting us in Armagh this evening 🫶🏼 #Yes2SocialWork #ChooseSocialWork
Four women have been murdered by men in six weeks. This is atrocious.
This means that Northern Ireland per head of population is one of the most dangerous places in Europe to be a woman.
This is an epidemic that requires immediate action. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cdje…

Domestic abuse is endemic, and the current epidemic of violence against women and girls needs to cease. This requires societal change which is the responsibility of all.

Domestic abuse is an endemic issue and disproportionately affects women in our society. I am delighted to hear that the Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy was launched today which is the start of the much-needed societal change.

Supporting the Ending violence against women and girls strategy is a key priority for the Southern Area Domestic and Sexual Violence Partnership @SouthernHSCT @WomensAidAD @nmdcouncil
We have just launched today a new digital and PR campaign to raise awareness of a range of gender-based violence, abuse and harm which is disproportionately targeted towards women and girls.
The aim of the ‘#EndItNow’ campaign is to highlight some of the key impact of men’s inappropriate sexual behaviour towards women and girls and the issues with the criminal justice system in tackling offenders.
To support this work, we have partnered with @abcb_council, @SouthernHSCT and @setrust to promote our new ‘#EndItNow’ campaign across local media and our social media channels.
