🧵'If you look at a map of child mortality in the 1850s, and mortality during Covid, they are almost the same. This suggests we have failed to understand the drivers in ill-health and tackle them.' Powerful point from @CMO_England speaking at #TCPAAnnualConference [1/2]

Several research papers have shown people from deprived areas wait longer for treatment by the NHS in England
But still we were surprised to find this discrimination exists in emergency care too

New research out from @IPPRNorth today shows public spending since ‘levelling up’ was unveiled - three years ago this week - has risen more in London than anywhere else; lowest rises in the north. It says levelling up has been ‘business as usual’

Our Sam Khavandi & @dukester24 were co-authors on this report that investigated the mental health impacts of COVID-19 and regional inequalities.
Mental health in England was badly hit during the #COVID19 pandemic.
@The_NHSA and #NIHRARCs' #ParallelPandemic report shows people in the North had significantly worse #mentalhealth outcomes compared to those in the rest of the country.

Excellent new @UoMPolicy blog by Melissa Surgey (@MelissaSurgey) on how ICSs will interact with pre-existing bodies, where the gaps are in legislation & how policymakers in Gov & the NHS can fill them.

📝New blog alert!
July 2022 sees the formal establishment of Integrated Care Systems (ICSs). @MelissaSurgey advises that policymakers and NHS England must ensure decision-making pathways are in place across regional and place levels.

This is an astonishingly important story from @jburnmurdoch. Our suddenly-diminished labour force is an immediate, dangerous drag on UK prosperity. It's a hypothesis, but if NHS decay is the reason, this is THE issue of the decade on.ft.com/3IYrtgP

HUGE WIN! Lesbians, bi women and trans people will no longer face additional barriers to accessing IVF, following our #IVFforAll campaign. This wouldn't have been possible without the help of our supporters, who campaigned alongside us for this change 🫶🌈

ALT Nancy Kelley, CEO at Stonewall, (she/her) said: 'We are delighted that the UK Government has listened to our call for fair and equal access to IVF treatment. For years, lesbians, bi women and trans people have been forced to pay for up to £25,000 of private healthcare before they can access IVF on the NHS, or face giving up their dream of becoming parents. 'This is a giant step towards a world where LGBTQ+ people have the same opportunity as everyone else to build a loving, thriving family of their own.’
