ALT Putting People First opening event slide below the title reads: Russell Shaffer, Senior Director - Global Culture, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

ALT Powerpoint slide on embracing universal design with a man holding a cane on the right portion of the slide with a list of major points: Universal design is the design and composition of an environment so that it can be accessed, understood and used to the greatest extent possible by all people regardless of their age, size, ability or disability. An environment or any building, product or service in that environment should be designed to meet the needs of all people who wish to use it. This is not a special requirement for the benefit of only a minority of the population, it is a fundamental condition of good design.

ALT Words Matter person first language with an person sitting in a wheelchair on the left portion of the screen with a bulleted list of information reading: a disability is what a person has, not what a person is. language shapes ideas, perceptions and beliefs. Person-first language emphasizes the person, not the disability. It shifts thinking away from disability as the primary characteristic or as a label. EXAMPLE: Person who is blind VS. Blind person. Avoid dated or reductive terms such as handicapped, crippled, stricken, impaired, confined, etc. Say the word - avoid made up terms like "Diversability" or "Handicapable". Respect and individual's choice of language/terminology
