NZNO’s own data demonstrates not a worsening of conditions under the Coalition, but rather in this case an improvement. Yet the union has consistently presented the issue as one relating directly to spending constraints and frontline cuts.

Last night on the Duncan Garner show, Opportunity leader and spokesperson for Finance, Economy and Commerce, Qiulae Wong claimed NZ’s “rock star economy” of the early 2000s was basically just Kiwis trading increasingly expensive houses with each other, with no real business strength or productivity growth.
That’s historically and economically wrong.
The “rock star” label was in 2014 from HSBC’s Paul Bloxham under the Key govt and it was about relative outperformance driven by the Christchurch earthquake rebuild, strong dairy and terms of trade, tourism, and migration. Sure, housing did contribute through construction and some wealth effects, but it wasn’t the main driver.
The early 2000’s growth, came from rising employment, domestic demand, net migration, and commodity prices, not zero-sum house flipping and real GDP and incomes rose.
I think it’s widely acknowledged that NZ does have a productivity problem, but saying the early 2000s (or 2014) “we just sold houses to each other” way over simplifies it and it doesn’t hold water.
For a Finance spokesperson in a potential kingmaker party, this lack of basic accuracy when talking about economics is actually pretty scary.

My favourite moment of being the NZ Prime Minister was when I wasn’t even the Prim e Minister.
Please vote for me.
I’m a bit retarded.

Chris Hipkins let’s be clear again on your statements today : these are the rules under MMP. Te Pāti Māori has encouraged voters to split their votes backing its electorate candidates while giving their party vote to your party. Centre-right voters are equally entitled to split their votes within those same rules.
You can debate the system but you cannot reasonably apply one standard to the left and another to the right.
And as I have said before far less than 1% of ZURU’s revenue comes from New Zealand. My motivation is wanting this country to succeed and win. What your government did in the last term was unforgivable.
New Zealand needs talented people in Parliament with common sense practical ideas and the ability to deliver a more prosperous future. I welcome a contest of ideas. What frustrates me is how often Labour offers policies that look designed to win votes rather than build lasting prosperity- this is what I would call gaming the system. Put that alongside proposals from its potential coalition partners that I believe would take us backwards very quickly.
When Willie Jackson is your fourth-ranked MP Chris I think you have serious work to do to attract stronger candidates and lift the quality of your team and the quality of your ideas.
Give New Zealanders a compelling vision, credible policies and people who can execute them. That is how we get a real contest of good ideas. I would welcome it.

Either this government lacks the principles it claims to hold, or it is abandoning them for political gain.
Either way.... they are a disgrace.
