Also arriving late on the scene are the Fulmar chicks, which have been appearing since 30th June. It's hard to get a glimpse as the parents keep them well hidden at this stage, but just occasionally one peeps out to say hello

🕊️ Today is #WorldSeabirdDay, marking the 1844 extinction of the Great Auk. Seabirds still face major threats—bycatch, pollution & habitat loss.
Just weeks ago, #WorldAlbatrossDay reminded us: thousands of seabirds die yearly in fisheries. Let’s act. 🌊🐦 #ACAP

You can't, on one hand, promote intensive farming policies that drench ALL our peatlands in ammonia, slowly killing them, and at same time celebrate their biodiversity and carbon sequestration
Or can you?
Welcome to Daera Doublespeak

🎉Happy #WorldPeatlandsDay
👉Peatlands are wetlands that store vast amounts of carbon, which play a crucial role in regulating our climate. They are also vital habitats for biodiversity providing a home for unique plants and animals.

Hard to believe but today marks the 8 year anniversary of free soloing el cap! Time flies. I’m still so grateful to the whole team for working on the climb with me and documenting it in the film. It was such an all star crew and such a great adventure (though obviously stressful at the time…).
Now I’m married with two kids and a house. How life changes!

🎉 PUFFIN PUFFIN PUFFIN 🎉
Windy, wet and cold out here currently, but what a breathtaking scene! Gazillions of Guillemots and Razorbills, and very briefly our first Puffin of the year 🥳

#StormÉowyn is what happens when you pack the climate system with energy. 2024 was the hottest year humans have ever recorded. Scientists say it is likely the hottest year in over 100,000 years

Maybe run this past all the people living in Ireland , Northern Ireland and Scotland tomorrow night after Storm Eowyn has done its worst . . . or all those of us who won’t get any flood/storm damage insurance ever again for our homes and businesses theguardian.com/business/202…

Yesssssss, it's what we've been waiting for - our favourite birds are back on the cliffs!!! A good scattering of Common Guillemots present today, and more out on the sea. Also loads of Fulmars on their ledges and circling around

My resolve not to buy yet another book before I’d finished several others held for much of last year, but I’m afraid it failed earlier this week when I found that this one, about my home county of Antrim’s Rathlin island, was “expecting” me at @SReadBooks in Grasmere, Cumbria.

🎉🎁Glad tidings we bring 🎁🎉
Supreme Court has refused Daera’s application for permission to appeal.
The seismic judgement we received earlier this year remains
Thank you 💚

Why is hunting with dogs still legal in NI?
Some traditions persist despite being cruel & outdated.

I’m struggling to comprehend the arrogance involved in making yourself the figurehead of a movement & then not preparing even a vaguely convincing answer to what must be a candidate for one of the world’s most obvious questions? Absolute car crash stuff.
