Thrilled to be a runner up in @HERDJournal 2021 Article of the Year, alongside colleagues @KiataRundle and @TraceyBretag. And big congrats to
@Bullen_JC & Lynne Roberts for their winning paper on non-Indigenous students' transformative experiences in tertiary Indigenous studies
…and the nominees are… Five articles were shortlisted for the @HERDjournal Article of the Year 2021 award. The award is sponsored by

Maybe we should start a list... Feedback that recognises what a student DID do, not just where they fell short of pre-determined criteria.
Yep. @RowenaHarper79 and I were talking about this the other day. She advocates for a shift from transactional to relational. So - what does relational assessment look like in my courses? (I wonder out loud to myself)

In 2022, two things happened in AI:
1) #AcademicTwitter began worrying about students using AI to write their essays
2) a Google engineer alleges that their AI is sentient
My 2023 prediction:
3) AI starts leaving these essays to the last minute and requesting extensions

Tell me you don't understand cheating, without telling me you don't understand cheating
(published in a journal ranked in the top 5 in education according to Google Scholar Metrics)

ALT Picture of text: "The final section of the template gives very specific instructions about preparation and submission of the student's response that deter unethical practice on the part of the student. The work must be submitted electronically to permit use of plagiarism detection software but, more importantly, the student's answer must make direct references to course-specific materials. This means that an accomplice would first have to become familiar with the subject materials, made more difficult given the time period allowed to complete the task is sufficiently tight. Meanwhile, buying an assignment from an online ‘cheat site’ is not an option given the task is unique and highly contextualised."
So proud of my amazing colleague and friend Tracey Bretag!

Totally agree @TraceyBretag
No-one is excusing cheating or not holding students to account. We need to understand the whole context rather than simplistically viewing cheating as a moral failing by individuals - There's no excuse for international students cheating - MacroBusiness macrobusiness.com.au/2019/07…

Favourite student evaluation comment this semester from a first year student “An anti-anxiety medication in the form of a person.” Wonder if I can add that to my bio??
