I’ve seen this firsthand during a challenging lead extraction complicated by an IVC tear during a femoral extraction approach. Our awesome CV surgeon Dr. Still @RootGal210 placed a Foley catheter directly into the IVC tear to achieve temporary hemostasis, allowing for stabilization and definitive surgical repair. An incredible example of multidisciplinary teamwork and quick thinking when it mattered most - the patient survived because of it.

Took patient s/p AVR (87') to OR in shock for ruptured ATAAD. Underwent redo arch/tissue bentall due to severe tissue destruction.
Saved patient (🥳) and explanted a piece of history, the @Medtronic Hall valve!! Completely gorgeous device. Honored!
