Andy Beal is one of the GOATs so
TIPS are useless. They go down when interest rates go up (the inflationary scenario they’re designed for) and then they don’t offer the same kind of price pop as normal treasuries when interest rates are declining. It tries to do two jobs at once and does both poorly.

Posted 3 members-only special situations past week. One US-listed, two int’l, three industries. If they close, $4k in each could cover cost of rockwoodnotes.com membership. If they don’t close, well…you know. Will make public after they play out. Not investment advice

This is a cool account.
October 13, 1971 Intel went public at $23.50. A month later it ran this ad for the 4004: 'Announcing a new era of integrated electronics.' $10K at the IPO, held through 13 splits, would be worth ~$49M today. Fifty-five years of not selling.

Big shout out to @RockwoodNotes who nailed this back in May. You can find his write up for FactSet on rockwoodnotes.com.
if someone told you they found a crystal ball and it said AI is coming to kill info services but you have to pick one one stock to own from the US blue chips, not sure 1% of people would have picked $FDS yet here it is, best performing name over the last 1y period

“Sadoun told ADWEEK that Omnicom’s 2025 IPG acquisition, which left the ad industry with “three global players,” (Publicis, Omnicom, and WPP), has been positive for his company. “Omnicom has brought clarity and simplicity. Having fewer players has created a lot of value for our industry. We should all be very grateful to Omnicom for doing this, because it’s really bringing a new dynamic.” Those three players took 91% of holdco media wins in the first half of 2026, up from 74% the previous year (in part because IPG’s wins now count toward Omnicom), according to COMvergence data cited by Publicis.” $OMC $PUB.PA $WPP

I found a stock in my old trades that I had zero memory of owning. I went back and figured out what it was, and it was a better story than I could’ve imagined. A post-bankruptcy microcap that 24x’d (and no, I didn’t earn that). Hope you enjoy. rockwoodnotes.com/retail-hol…

So I’ve lost track …. Is this week 5, 10, 15, 20 of tanker “experts” saying rates are at their top and can’t possibly go any higher 😅 We are in such uncharted territories, nobody can really predict how much higher we go or stay at extremely elevated levels for longer …. #TANKERS

I’m excited to share this previously unreleased 2022 conversation between Charlie Munger and Todd Combs. As with any Munger talk, the subjects are both deep and wide. I’ve pulled out the ideas that most resonated with me and published a full transcript. A special thank you to the Singleton Foundation, Todd Combs, and William Thorndike for giving me the permission to share this with you. Not a huge fan of most her books, but this one should be required reading for every person around the world. And, if you work in politics/government (military), you should have to read it once a year.
