The ultimate key to unlocking the heart of the Milky Way
For millennia, light-blocking dust prevented us from seeing the heart of the Milky Way.
Today, we've reached our galactic center, its supermassive black hole, and now, the event horizon.

Apparently reflect orbital conducted their first ground illumination test and WOW does it look cool.
Location: (near Mount Whitney and Lone Pine, California)
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Reflect Orbital's test near Mt. Whitney used powerful spotlights mounted on the ground to simulate illumination from its planned orbital reflectors. The company's first satellite has not launched. sfgate.com/tech/article/mโฆ sfchronicle.com/outdoors/articโฆ

What could have been: comparing SC25 with recent (post mid-20th century) very active solar cycles. SC19, SC21, SC22 and SC23 were all significantly more active. The surge in activity (sunspot number) in mid-2024 was the only time SC25 approached or matched any of these solar cycles. It is still a while away, but it would really be nice if SC26 was like those cycles :) Imagine the sleep deprivation from all the aurora!

Mysterious Lights in the Sky! The Science Behind These Incredible Rocket Clouds ๐๐
Have you ever seen something this strange in the evening sky? ๐ฑโจ
These spectacular glowing formations resemble a phenomenon often called a Space Jellyfish!
When rockets release exhaust gases at high altitudes, sunlight can illuminate the expanding plume even after the Sun has set for people on the ground.
The result? Brilliant blue, white, orange, and pink clouds that can look like mysterious objects floating across the sky! ๐
Despite their unusual appearance, these formations have a fascinating scientific explanation.
Would you recognize a rocket plume if you saw one in the sky? ๐
