California just had its hottest and driest March ever recorded. It was warmer than any April on record since 1895. Warmer than the average May. And as dry as a typical July. A month that would have been virtually impossible in the pre-industrial climate.

Whew. All signs are increasingly pointing to a significant, if not strong to very strong, El Niño event. I'll have more to say in coming weeks & months, but for now I'll just say that this is increasingly likely to become a major regional-to-global climate driver in 2026-2027.

ALERTSF: A young mountain lion was spotted near Pacific/Octavia. If you see the mountain lion, slowly back away, do not run. Call Animal Care & Control at 415-554-9400 or 911 in a life safety emergency. If you have a child with you - pick them up - and keep dogs on leash. If the mountain lion approaches - make yourself 'big' wave your arms, shout, throw something, and again, do not run. manager.everbridge.net/pub/2…

OK, now that things have calmed down for the time being. Let's take a look 🧐back at the recent lightning ⚡event. What was the final strike count? 🤔The region experienced over 13k total flashes, 6500 in-cloud, and 6700 cloud-ground. Most were wet with no 🔥 concerns. #CAwx

I compared the first 2 quarters of 2025 with the first and last 2 quarters of 2024. Y'all, I don't think Trump's economy is doing well.

What are the odds this July’s Mediterranean heat is natural? About 1 in a billion! It's the most extreme Mediterannean heatwave on record. Peak anomalies +8C (+14F) now off France/ Italy with absolute peak temps near 31C/88F. Those are isolated, but how deviant are the overall Med SST's from the norm? Around 6 deviations (sigma) or a roughly a 1-in-a-billion chance. So, basically, it's NOT possible in a natural climate. BUT heat waves like this are not caused solely by climate change. So let's dig deeper with a thread... 1/
