ALT 09/23/26 Bridgeport, CT - Multiple calls received let companies know they were going to work on arrival. Unfortunately, Engine Four and Truck 11 (two of the first due companies) were relocated to the town of Fairfield to cover their station. Engine Three arrived to find a two and a half story, wood frame, private dwelling with heavy smoke showing. Knowing the first due truck was coming from farther away, Safety One arrived and performed a quick search ahead of the line and found one male victim on the second floor. The victim was removed to the street as a 10-45 code 2. He was later pronounced dead at Bridgeport Hospital. This prompted Battalion 1 to transmit the second alarm upon his arrival. Companies attempted to make the interior attack, but were driven out due to heavy fire and hoarding conditions. A third alarm was transmitted as two tower ladders, two monitors and multiple hand lines went to work darkening down the fire. The fire took about two hours to bring under control.
