Madhubala, a female elephant at Karachi’s Safari Park, is facing a serious health emergency after collapsing and becoming unable to stand without assistance.
Authorities say she has developed swelling in her right hind thigh, affecting her ability to use the leg. Veterinary teams are expected to conduct X-rays and blood and urine tests to determine the cause and assess her condition.
Madhubala previously recovered from tuberculosis and a foot infection. Officials say she is currently eating, but veterinarians have warned that prolonged inability to stand could become life-threatening.
Her condition has renewed concerns over specialised veterinary care, continuous monitoring and proper living conditions for captive elephants.
