Military readiness depends on giving our servicemembers the tools to do their jobs, not forcing them to wait on unnecessary bureaucracy.
Gen. Gering confirmed that Marines have waited 8 months to repair a vehicle component they could have fixed themselves in 4 hours if they had access to the necessary repair data. Marines also built a communications mast for $10 that outperformed a contractor version costing $5,644.
We already own this equipment. Our Marines should be trusted to maintain it whenever possible, not forced to wait on contractors who control the repair information.
That’s why @RepGoodlander and I introduced an amendment requiring contractors to provide the repair data our military needs unless they can demonstrate a legitimate reason not to. It passed @HASCRepublicans by voice, with bipartisan support.
This is about military readiness, responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars, and ensuring our servicemembers have what they need to accomplish the mission. It’s now part of the House NDAA awaiting a floor vote.
The Marine Corps is facing “significant” challenges keeping some of its most important weapons in working order due to over-reliance on contractors. ow.ly/QyN450ZlmKH

I joined my friend and bipartisan partner @RepGoodlander on Meet the Press to discuss our first-of-its-kind Public Service Accountability Act.
After introducing the Restore Trust in Congress Act earlier this year to ban Members of Congress from trading individual stocks, this new legislation takes the next step: one clear ethics standard for senior officials across Congress, the executive branch, and the federal judiciary.
The principle is simple: public office is a public trust.
Those with access to sensitive information and the power to shape policy should not be trading individual stocks, participating in prediction markets, or using positions of public service for personal financial gain.
The American people deserve a government that serves them—not itself.

NEWS: There a new bipartisan bill to regulate prediction markets.... this one from @RepGoodlander (D-NH) and @RepBrianFitz (R-PA). The bill would ban officials from all three branches of US government from using prediction markets:
— Members of Congress, their spouses and dependents, and congressional staff
— POTUS and VP, their spouses and dependents, Executive Branch political appointees, and temporary "special government employees" (think: Elon Musk)
— The nine Supreme Court justices, all other federal judges, and senior judicial branch employees
I believe this goes further than the other recent bills, by including the judiciary. And if caught, violators would lose profits and pay a fine worth 10% of their trades.

Hardworking Americans are struggling to afford food and health care, and now, they're footing the bill for Donald Trump's reckless war in Iran.
BREAKING: Democratic Veterans swore an oath to defend our nation, both when they signed up to serve and when they were sworn into office. Now, they’re delivering on that Oath.
ONLY Congress has the constitutional power to declare war. That’s what we’re fighting for today.
