You gotta book to write. You're half awake in the morning. The book is a mountain. You got some notes somewhere. Where? What are you gonna do? All day you don't look for the notes. In the end, you find the notes. You turn them into a plan. It's not a mountain. It's a path.

New lows for @GWRHelp A first class advance ticket buys you a seat on floor outside the toilet in a train where it’s standing room from front to rear… I’m getting back in my car!

My headline wouldn’t have been “pride in UK history falls” but “pride in UK arts & literature is at almost 80%, above sport, history etc” That won’t last without resource … if we go on closing public libraries for example!

I’m not inclined to leave twitter - because if all the people who post nice stuff leave - then we are allowing the cess pit people take over - let’s fill this thing with art and books and birds and flowers and jokes etc - let’s swamp it with good stuff - reclaim it

Hard to decide what to post after such an overwhelming response to my last scribble. Thank you everyone! X for all the RTs, likes and very kind words. Thought I’d post another doggy.

Some people will talk themselves out of ever sharing their writing with anybody (and we know where this doesn't lead), let alone entering it for a prize; while others will just go for it. I've taught hundreds of students who have short stories hidden on their hard drives. My advice about sending out to competitions is to do so -- and then forget about it. The chances of being nominated or even winning are slight, but at least you've given it a shot. And you keep giving it a shot - submitting, writing, developing your skills and projects - because you are investing in your creativity and future. We have a choice between doing and not doing. One is fuelled by determination and ambition, the other by fear of failure and lack of confidence - instead of choosing to break free. @RSLiterature #WritingCommunity

A shocking 68% decline in pupils taking #Design & #Technology #GCSE. Why? when we have such a vibrant design economy worth nearly £100 billion in GVA? Where will tomorrow's designers come from to find solutions for today's problems?

The illusion is that because people are in charge, they must be more intelligent.
Repeat, this is an illusion
