On this day, in 1536, William Tyndale was strangled and burned at the stake for translating the Scriptures into English for the common man. His final words, “Lord, open the King of England’s eyes.”

I have mentioned several times recently that we live in a golden age of distinctively Reformed Christian children’s literature.
I thought it might be nice to share some personal recommendations of what’s working in our home. We still have a lot more to unpack but here are some really good ones to consider.
Side note: I pay virtually no attention to recommended age for children’s books. A fair bit of this is currently over James (7) and Lynne’s (3) heads. But I am a big believer in teaching over their heads and helping them rise to the occasion.
Top row are several had Christian biographies: John Knox, Gladys Aylward, Maria Fearing, Susannah Spurgeon, and Helen Roseveare. These are all published by @newgrowthpress just up the road in Greensboro NC. They’re great and accessible. Brooke (9) can and has read all of them multiple times.
Second row starts with more biographies. 10 Girls Who Used Their Talents, 10 Girls Who Changed the World, 10 Girls Who Made a Difference, 10 Girls Who Didn’t Give In. All published by @Christian_Focus . Again Brooke can and has read all of these. Loves them.
Next is a bio on Augustine published by @RHB_Books . We have a whole series of these. I am currently reading this one to Brooke, James, and Lynne. Lord willing we will finish tomorrow night. They’re really enjoying it.
Next, His Grace Is Enough by Melissa Kruger. This was a gift from Meadowview and is extra sweet because it was written by the wife of one of my favorite seminary profs. It has a “Oh the Places You’ll Go” Dr. Seuss feel.
Next is the Acrostic of God by Timothy Brindle and Jonathan Gibson. This is part of a mini series published by @newgrowthpress again. All wonderfully accessible for my younger kids. They’re like Bible ABC books but with more substantial theological depth.
Finally on this row is The Biggest Story Bible by Kevin DeYoung and @crossway . We’ve been through it as a family several times. Warning, there are some depictions of our Lord that some may find problematic. I just put a post it note over them and keep going. Kids don’t mind and it provides a good teaching opportunity.
Bottom row:
John Calvin’s Institutes Illustrated published by @RefToons and @prpbooks. I read a chapter of one of these volumes to James daily. He loves it and we really are starting to have great conversations about the main points of this classic work. They are really faithful to Calvin in content. Cant recommend enough. Can’t wait for more.
Next we have 3 more from @newgrowthpress . The Ology is a complete systematic theology for kids. We haven’t been all the way through, but we’ve enjoyed it. “The Sword” is a kids study of Romans with a side narrative mixed through. If you ever watched Wishbone as a kid, it feels kind of like that.
Finally: Who Is Jesus is just a survey of all the different types, shadows, and offices of Christ. No second commandment issues.
Again, this is just what is currently out of box. There are DOZENS more.

One year ago, Dr. Voddie Baucham, Jr., entered into the land of the living and the presence of the Savior. Today, we honor and remember the life and legacy of our dear brother and the Founding President of Founders Seminary.
Dr. Baucham preached the Inaugural Convocation address for Founders Seminary on Saturday, September 20, 2025, and preached his final sermon on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Grace Baptist Church, his home church in Cape Coral, Florida. He finished strong.
Dr. Baucham’s life of ministry and faithfulness to the Lord continues to bless countless lives.
Pray for Dr. Baucham’s wife, children, and grandchildren.
