You may cook this goose... Part 3 of 15. "Hus" means goose in Czech. In the flames he promised a swan the church could neither roast nor boil. Who do you think the swan would be? #JanHus #MartinLuther #ChurchHistory #Reformation #RefToons

1415, Constance. Jan Hus stands trial for heresy and won't budge: "Unless I am convinced by Scripture... my conscience will not allow me to recant." The sentence? Death. #ReformationMonth #JanHus

It’s Reformation month! Which means, I’m due for posting the pages of my Luther comic from all the way back in 2016. That's right, this comic is 10 years old! I will be posting 1 or two pages per day until Reformation Day. This comic was originally created in 2016 on paper with a pencil and ink brush as part of the @Inktober daily ink drawing challenge. #inktober #ReformationDay

Lucas Cranach the Elder died on this day in 1553. He painted the Reformers (see Luther's portrait below) and illustrated Luther’s Bible, putting the Reformation’s ideas in front of people through images. As a Reformed illustrator, I’m thankful for his work.

"Be of good cheer, Ridley; and play the man. We shall this day, by God’s grace, light up such a candle in England, as, I trust, will never be put out." — Hugh Latimer October 16, 1555. Latimer and Ridley burned at Oxford.

"Scripture is the best interpreter of Scripture. The locks of Scripture are only to be opened with the keys of Scripture; and there is no lock in the whole bible, which God meant us to open, without a key to fit it somewhere in the Bible, and we are to search for it until we find it." —Charles Spurgeon

Hearts of stone need a hammer. Benjamin Keach said hearts are naturally rough, like rocks, until God's Word hews them with the axe and the hammer (Hosea 6:5). The blow is hard, and it comes from love. Get the art print, link in bio. #BenjaminKeach #WordOfGod #ReformedBaptist #ChristianComics #RefToons

He never once feared the devil... but the pulpit? John Knox faced down queens and kept his nerve, but he trembled every time he climbed into the pulpit. That's how seriously he took preaching God's Word. Pastors, is this you every Sunday?
