Sadly, after 40+ years, Dr. Frank Cullen was FIRED simply to save UC money. In just the past 8 years, he published 148 articles + 7 books, received 34,383 citations, won ASC’s Mentor Award, got $595,567 in grants, advised 13 dissertations, and received high teaching evaluations.

Outrage over the hiring of neoliberal economist and police apologist Jennifer Doleac to run criminal justice policy at Arnold Ventures is growing. My letter is in the thread.

She is a problem. This is what gave birth to mass incarceration 1.0. #ResearchKaren

After what seemed like forever, here is my first solo publication! I examined the motivations for persistent gang involvement among Hmong gang members and reflected on salient cultural and geographic distinctions. 👇👇👇

If you are outraged that Elizabeth Holmes has a small child and is pregnant and is going to jail, ask yourself: Who do you think populates women’s prisons?

That’s how much $$$ it costs NYC, per person, to jail someone on Rikers Island in deadly, inhumane conditions,
We live in a society that will spend to more money to jail someone than to house, educate, & feed them combined. The cruelty is the point.

Same foundations that call themselves progressive will ask non profit organizations to measure success through recidivism rates, as if Black, brown and poor people getting locked up is not primarily a function of government policy: parole, policing, probation, child support, etc. – at Seattle, WA

Incarceration didn't fail you. It was never meant to protect you.

We need to find a way of honouring the dreadful experiences of some victims of crime that is not just imposing weighty punishment on those who have wronged them. Victims need more than such punishment and usually this doesn't help them at all.

Yesterday Adnan left me the first voice notes he's ever left anyone and they are as adorable as you'd expect ("is this on, is this recording, what is this?") and told me he's trying to learn to use an iPhone but that "he's not really liked cell phones since 1998", I DIED 🤣🤣🤣

Gregory Acevedo died last night, the 15th person killed by NYC's jails since Mayor Adams took office, and the 31st person since early 2021.
We can't take it anymore. Officials must release people, stop sending people to these deadly jails, & protect people's basic human rights.

I had a therapist who once told me, “if you don’t schedule a break, your body will take one for you. And it probably won’t be at a convenient time.”
