OUT NOW! I can't express how excited I am to share my record with the world. Making this album was a process through a difficult time, and my wish is that these songs can provide a sense of hope, as they did for me. 🙏

We have to learn how to keep on pushing without Bob Moses here with us in the physical world. Photo from just over 10 years ago on a visit to @FannieLouHS. Sending love to his family, friends and everyone who has learned from his wisdom, patience and tenacity.

Bob Moses was a hero of mine. His quiet confidence helped shape the civil rights movement, and he inspired generations of young people looking to make a difference. Michelle and I send our prayers to Janet and the rest of the Moses family.

This is a victory for the children. We have a lot of work to do to create a better future but at least we have a chance. Celebrate today and let’s get to work tomorrow.

We must free our teachers to focus on student relationships & unleashing creativity for instruction.
That means lifting documentation, paperwork, & bureaucracy off them.

I want to share a quote from journalist Roxane Gay: Eventually doctors will find a vaccine but black people will continue to wait for a cure for racism. The rest of the world yearns for a return to normal, normal is the very thing from which we yearn to be free.

Now is not the time for neutrality, silence, or indifference. Let your voices be heard, make your presence known, and your stance clear. We ALL need to stand up to anti-Black racism & other forms of oppression. We are better when we collectively fight dehumanization of any group

My heart is heavy.
Sometimes I cry.
We focus on letter grades.
As people die.
Its not about the learnin.
It never has been.
It's always been to make sure we keep kids inside of a pen.
Where's the empathy?
Where's the love?
The kids are the ones I'm thinking of. #HipHopEd

If you believe that schools can't be improved until we end poverty I can show you dozens of schools that prove that's not the case. I'm very proud $ happy about the leadership being shown by the youth today.

We need to overhaul how students engage with math. Fluency in math is empowers comprehension of reality, enhances creativity, and is requisite for civic engagement. @YPeoplesProject @BCPS_ElemMath @BrowardMath @NatMathFestival @BCCTM1 @NatMathFestival – at Washington, DC
This is the NAEP 8th grade math proficency map for the US. Where does your state rank? Even if it is higher than the average, the level of #math proficiency is still terrible! Only 33% at or above proficient. We can do better!

Many were surprised when I expressed skepticism about the value of anti-bias training. I do believe racial bias is real and pervasive. I don't believe you can be trained out of it unless you are open to unlearning it. To me, addressing structural inequities is far more important.

It is through mistakes that knowledge will grow. Teachers do not need to be the all knowing expert. It is better to model being a curious inquirer. Someone who seeks to play with knowledge, learn with students & model being OK making mistakes & learning from them. #LimitlessMind – at Stanford, CA
