Most of us know enough first aid to handle the little things. It’s the moments we don’t see coming, like someone going into cardiac arrest, that can leave us unsure what to do.

It’s always a good day when friends stop by!
Our friends at @UNITEDWAYAL visited our Hoover office yesterday to catch up and hear how their support is helping families in the communities we share.
We’re awfully lucky to have friends like these!
There's a reason you'll find AEDs in schools, gyms and workplaces. If someone goes into cardiac arrest, the people nearby will have to act before an ambulance arrives.
Would you know how to use one? Here's a quick refresher. 👇🏼
Losing your home in minutes is devastating. But that's what around 20 people in Hoover faced after a fire this morning.
We were on scene listening, offering comfort and helping residents figure out what comes next.
Thankfully, everyone had a new apartment by the end of the day.
Weather alerts? Check. Safety tips? Check. Connecting with help after a disaster? Yep, that too.
And the best part? You can get all of that in one place with our free Emergency app.
Download it now.
You may never expect to use CPR. But if someone nearby experiences cardiac arrest, knowing it could double or triple their chance of survival.
Find a CPR class and learn what to do.

A blood donation may begin with someone rolling up their sleeve, but its journey doesn’t end when they leave the donation chair.
It still has somewhere important to go, & a volunteer helps get it there.

If you've ever passed a home fire and kept thinking about the people who live there, you could be one of the people who shows up for them.
If that's something you'd want to be ready to do, learn more about becoming a Disaster Action Team volunteer at redcross.org/volunteer.
Do you know someone w/ cancer? Someone who is pregnant? Someone w/ sickle cell disease? Then you know someone who may need blood.
Every day, someone in our community may need blood.

The storm may be over, but for those dealing with damage from Hurricane #Isaias, the hardest part may be just beginning.
If you need help, please call the number below.
Heading outside after #Isaias?
⚠️ Avoid downed power lines.
🚗 Never drive through floodwater.
🏠 Wait for official clearance before returning to evacuated areas.
🔌 Keep generators outdoors.
Stay alert and follow local officials' guidance.
With the storm moving through our state, now's a good time to get a few things in order if you haven't already.
🔋 Charge your devices
📱 Turn on weather alerts
🔦 Have a flashlight nearby
Even if you're inland, don't assume the storm won't affect you.
Hurricane Isaias could bring damaging winds to southern Alabama.
Before it arrives:
🔋 Charge your devices
🔦 Check your flashlight
📱 Turn on emergency alerts
🏡 Bring loose outdoor items inside
Patio furniture, trash cans and potted plants can become dangerous in high winds.
You shouldn't wait for a storm to look serious before preparing.
If you live in an apartment, think through:
📍 Where you'd go
📱 How you'd stay informed
🏢 Your building's emergency plan
🎒 What you'd take with you
Don't live in an apt? Tag friends or family members who do.
Waiting to see what the storm in the Gulf does next doesn’t mean you should do nothing.
While the weather is still calm, use this time to prepare your home. Check in with older family members and neighbors too, and ask whether they need help preparing theirs.
If a fire started at home tonight, would everyone know how to get out and where to meet?
Save this home fire escape plan and work through it with your family before you ever have to answer that question for real.
Think about the extinguisher in your kitchen. Is there one? Do you know exactly where it is? When did you last check the gauge?
If a fire broke out right now, could you get to it without reaching over the stove?
Those aren’t questions you want to answer after a fire starts.
Fall favorites are back, and so is your chance to help patients in need.
Come to give blood or platelets Sept. 21-Oct. 18 and we'll send you a $15 e-gift card to your choice of merchant as thanks.
Schedule your visit: rcblood.org/4frUYJx
One of you drives; the other keeps an eye on the route. After enough years together, you probably already know who does what.
Turns out that's perfect for delivering blood. If you're looking for something to do together in your free time, take a look.⬇️
