If the Houthis have successfully struck ARAMCO's HQ following Saudi strikes on Yemeni fuel storage, then this leaves two pathways: 1. The two sides realise they are on the brink of catastrophic destruction and pull back, with the Saudis having re-established deterrence. But for the Saudis, this would entail surrendering Yemen to the Houthi - they'd have to abandon the fight in Yemen itself, and then the Houthi take Taiz, Aden, and Ma'rib. They win the civil war and start planning for the next fight with Saudi Arabia. 2. All out escalation, until someone wins or until the two sides are exhausted. This can take years. The Saudi economy cannot hold on for long if ARAMCO HQ is getting hit - the next target will be the SABIC HQ, then the Ma'aden HQ, then the PIF, then the HQ of every American oil engineering company in Saudi Arabia. The Saudis have a lot more to lose than the Yemenis, and the Saudi economy would fall apart if expats at these companies decide it's no longer safe. Imagine what happens if the Iraqis decide to back the Houthi with weekly strikes on the East West Pipeline and Ras Tanura, for instance. How does the Saudi state continue to function? But then this has global implications. Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, these all massively depend on remittances from the GCC. If Saudi Arabia falls apart, then so does the rest of the GCC, and then all of these remittance dependent countries. A third world debt crisis can follow a big deterioration in the Gulf.

First example I've seen of a small business using an AI-generated logo but then commissioning a woodcarver to make a real handmade version of it. It kind of looks great? Are we still robbing artists in this case?

A reminder that Borges and McCarthy were not awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature but a Canadian woman who writes execrable lines just was. “Once there were brook trout in the streams in the mountains. You could see them standing in the amber current where the white edges of their fins wimpled softly in the flow. They smelled of moss in your hand. Polished and muscular and torsional. On their backs were vermiculate patterns that were maps of the world in its becoming. Maps and mazes. Of a thing which could not be put back. Not be made right again. In the deep glens where they lived all things were older than man and they hummed of mystery.” ― Cormac McCarthy, The Road

A sane person would see Iran's ability to burn the Middle East and conclude that the only answer is to develop the energy reserves of the North Sea, frack where viable, and use British coal until a fleet of nuclear reactors are ready. An Israel First person sees it as an opportunity to draw Britain into an unwinnable forever war.

What’s especially ironic is the last social security reforms were in 1983. Baby boomers became the largest voting bloc in 1984. The reforms were passed by people who knew they were taking the haircut. Since then, the attitude has simply been run it into the iceberg because I’ll get mine before we hit it.

The beauty of the internet is that it exposed the unimpressive, lying, snobs who dominated the corporate press with a completely unearned sense of entitlement for generations.
"The tragedy of the Internet is that it has elevated the village idiot to the status of a bearer of truth.”
