We built a country that looks like this over the last 70 years to force people to buy a product that’s bankrupting them.
BREAKING: America’s $1.7 trillion auto loan market is headed for a crash, per Reuters.
Auto loans are now one of the biggest sources of household debt, bigger than credit cards.
And the strain is showing: 1 in 5 Americans is behind on at least one loan, the highest since 2010, and the average car on the road is now nearly 13 years old, a record.

Cars are not freedom and certainly not financial freedom.

Fareless transit doesn't redistribute wealth from the rich to the working class.
It redistributes transit's inherently finite operating budget away from running service.

we have been adding highway lanes to fix traffic since 1956 and the traffic has not once been fixed. at a certain point the experiment is over and we’re just doing it for the vibes

San Francisco has not built enough housing to keep up with population growth. This leads to higher housing prices, forcing people who don't work in tech to move out of the city. This hurts everyone, as the city is now less interesting. Agree other cities should learn from this.

a car lane on a city street moves somewhere between 600 and 1,600 people an hour. a protected bike lane can move 7,500. a bus lane can do 8,000. we keep picking the option with the worst numbers and calling everyone who notices an ideologue

when did you first realize that Elon was a grifter?
for me, it was the “verbal government approval” of a hyperloop back in 2017
There's nothing high density about a 2-3 story townhome. We need more density in our cities to make use of existing infrastructure to handle the population growth that was requested by the premier.
High density infill needs common sense consideration for parking, waste collection, water and utilities, and the surrounding neighbourhood. Edmonton families asked for help.
Our government stepped in because people had run out of places to turn. Municipal Affairs Minister @DanWilliamsAB explains it best👇

Edmonton requires 0 parking for an eightplex, but Calgary requires 4 stalls. Yet all eightplexes in Edmonton also have 4 parking stalls. One reason parking minimums are unnecessary is because people like having parking - so builders want to include it without government mandate.
This is the famously non-congested 401, isn't it? More lanes make less driving or something something?
The same government that thinks bike lanes are a waste of money is looking to spend $100 Billion on new highways, including a new highway tunnel the 401. If one more lane doesn’t work to fix traffic, have we tried just one more highway?

Big things cost big money. The idea that people shouldn't want us to do things if they don't directly benefit - and *millions* of Canadians will - undermines the whole point of a nation. My tax dollars fund loads of stuff I don't "ride".
The PBO says building Alto could cost up to $113 billion or more. At $113 billion, that works out to roughly $10,800 for a Canadian family of four, for a train most families will never ride.
Had you heard of it? My report this week:

Today marks an exciting milestone for #greenlineyyc. Although the project has been under construction for a while, it's flown under the radar for most Calgarians. That's about to change with the contract to build the bridge across the Deerfoot & Bow River

"The next time a proposal for new homes, gentle density, or supportive housing comes to your street, be the voice that speaks up in support. Welcoming new homes is how we bring people in from the cold. It is how we offer them a fair shot at the Canadian dream..."

We displaced hundreds of thousands of people and razed most urban cores in this country for highways, but high speed rail and bike/bus lanes are too disruptive for us today.

Some people want to live in a low density suburb/village that is also close to or inside a high density city so that they get the best of both worlds... and that is an absurd expectation.
