A 12 year old boy named Jaiden was kicked out of class in a Colorado Springs school yesterday because he had a Gadsden flag patch (Don’t Tread on Me) adhered to his backpack. Even though I get that some people identify the flag as being associated slavery, that’s not what the flag actually represents. It’s origin is from the Revolutionary War, not the Civil War, and it definitely didn’t originate out of a dislike for certain groups of people. With this said, if you feel that it’s OK for a kid to wear a Gadsden flag, yet have a problem with a child wearing an LGBTQ+ flag or BLM flag to school, then you are being a hypocrite. Do you agree? What are your thoughts on this patch on the child’s backpack?
