For those not getting it: As crazy as it sounds, my tweet represents a fair summation of the theory of power, that - after years of ostensible study of why more things don't get built faster - @ezraklein offered to Jon Stewart re: how the convoluted regs in the rural broadband program came to be. (More on that in my next tweet.) Rather, the ISPs worked through Rs and conservative Ds to try to make that program unworkable — just as the fossil fuel industry is doing with renewables here. When you write corporate power out of your narrative you: 1- Offer a framework that makes it more likely that you're going to lose elections 2- Point at actors who are not the primary reason things function suboptimally in most cases 3- Get promoted a ton by the mainstream corporate media and corporate-aligned funders

When are those darned community groups and environmentalists ever gonna get over their procedure fetish, tell their hordes of lobbyists to stand down, and stop blocking clean energy production through labyrinthian regulatory regimes
