During my medical training, I never thought I would prescribe housing. But if there was a drug to restore 30-40 life years for patients, we would all see it as a medical breakthrough.
That life-saving treatment is housing for all.
Hospitals are needing to move upstream and address homelessness because band aid treatments keep failing people and health workers.
Grateful for UHN leadership seeing the importance of broadening our lane and the power of partnership with community.

A pleasure to meet and support this important work.
We need more dedicated funding to help improve community access, lower wait times for treatment, and improve mental health outcomes, especially for vulnerable youth. #cdnpoli

It is simple-minded to look at people with psychiatric illness, homelessness and drug use and think them lesser people. If you knew the abuse and trauma many of them suffered you would think different. Not everyone's father gave them a job and inheritance.

After a high dose of psilocybin, the brain desynchronizes at a massive scale, causing loss of our sense of self, time, and space. This may drive the burst of plasticity caused by psychedelics. The next day, brain activity has largely returned to normal, but an echo remains – a reset of circuits critical to the sense of self.

12,000 years ago, all of Toronto was covered in a mile-high glacier. Over time, the earth warmed and the glacier began to melt. For centuries, fast-rushing glacial water carved out enormous valleys, leaving Toronto with the largest ravine system of any city in the world.
Depression packs a hard punch - anhedonia can strip one of their passions & self-identity. My colleagues Dhvani, Anthony & I in Addictions research @camh see how both are often coupled. It’s still #MentalHealthAwareness Month & together we can #DefeatDepression @MoodDisordersCa
