Well, that's a wrap! Final stop on the @eale_sbe tour done. Fantastic week travelling with @JonPiqueras and @RHelensdotter. Lots of good food, lots of good Economics, and only one train delay.
We made it to Antwerp!

Very happy to be in Berlin for the first leg of the @eale_sbe tour. Much sunnier than Scotland!
The weather in the UK this winter hasn't been conducive to a good attempt at the @the_econ5k but the gales (if not the rain!) paused on Boxing Day just long enough. #Econ5k
I really enjoyed writing this paper with @csingletonecon and Paul Telemo. We still don't have a definitive reason why wages in this market keep increasing after productivity begins to decline.
To study the age-wage and age-productivity relationships, @RachelEScarfe and @csingletonecon study professional soccer players. Wages continue to increase even after productivity has peaked and then sharply drops! @WileyEconomics #EconTwitter #soccer tinyurl.com/mr47dby8
Who pays for pensions? Me, @DSchaeferEcon and @SulkaTomasz try to answer this question in our new WP ⬇️

Another action shot. I need a new presentation pose I think.
At the WeLaR workshop on labour market supply, @RachelEScarfe (@EdinburghUni) discussed her research on the aggregate effect of casual work on labour markets. She shows that minimum wage policies play a particularly important role.
Action shots! This was a great session, the work @EliefV and Uma Rani have done on platform work is really timely and fills a big gap in our knowledge about new types of jobs.
The UNTANGLED conference session on platform and flexible work featured presentations by Uma Rani (@ilo), @EliefV (@ID_VUB) and @RachelEScarfe (@EdinburghUni) on job quality, digitalisation's impact on platform work in developing countries and long-term trends in part-time work.
I have just discovered the ONS's full list of occupations. That's the end of any productive work for me today...
Very excited about this (although I'm planning to get the train from Scotland, which feels like a risky move)
🗣️Join us at the WeLaR Workshop on Labour Market Supply at @HIVA_KULeuven! We will explore policies that encourage labour market participation & ensure that no one is left behind

Another super useful resource from Piotr and his team
Happy to share the codes to calculate worker-level routine task intensity (RTI) with survey data for 47 countries, and occupational RTI data for 102 countries.
Please check if you study job polarization, occupations, structural change.

And yet, policies that affect millions of people's lives will be decided on the basis of these surveys.

What this means is that we can’t really trust either of the main sources of labour market stats - ASHE on earnings, or LFS on employment.
We don’t know what’s happened to earnings inequality. And we don’t know if concerns about inactivity are overblown.
I am super excited (and, to be totally honest, a little bit terrified) to be selected for the 2024 EALE Tour!
