Two weeks ago nearly 100 technical analysis practitioners were arriving in Bethesda Maryland for our Fall Summit hosted by @ProShares.
It was a packed 2.5 days of market insights, technical (plus the occasional fundamental) perspective, and networking that encompassed everything CMT Association stands for.
A big thank you and shout out for everyone of our speakers who contributed. If you couldn't make it, here's a sampling of what you missed:
- Technical Analysis through the decades with louise yamada & her hand-drawn charts, @emsorenson99 , @mathewverdouw, and @dlundgren3333.
- The Macro Setup with @GinaMartinAdams looking at policy, liquidity, and earnings.
- Tape-reading tips and tricks from @JayWoods3 & @RachelDashCS.
- The institutional investment process with @John_Kolovos, @Hedgeye_HELS, @chucktrafton breaking down the processes/tools used by institutional investors globally.
- A moment of remembrance for Tom Dorsey and Watson Wright, led by @_TBone_Pickens.
- The manual art of technical analysis vs. quant automation with @mathewverdouw.
- Leadership, fragility, and charts that would change the bullish trend with @JayWoods3, @John_Kolovos, @StocktonKatie, & @DKellerCMT
- The myth of missing the 10 best days and more from @CMTRandazzo, @ryangorman, and Shawn Keel, CFA, CMT.
- Combining price action and financial statement analysis with @CEDDY86, @GinaMartinAdams, @chucktrafton, and Melissa Otto, CFA.
- @DantesOutlook explaining a dual-strategy approach to risk management that combines momentum and mean reversion.
- The next ten years -- what endures, what breaks, and what replaces it: @DanRusso_CMT, @Hedgeye_HELS, and @_TBone_Pickens.
And much more content shared in our breakout sessions, networking breaks, and event receptions.
Thank you to every one of our speakers, attendees, and ProShares for helping make this event a massive success. We'll be back next fall, but for now, look out for our Midwinter Retreat in Tampa this January!

I think people try to find or make the perfect scan, and it doesn’t exist.
Part of my edge has always come from scanning thousands of charts over the weekend and putting the pieces together.
Which names are starting to stand out? Is a group theme potentially setting up? Which groups are extended despite a good setup? That’s situational awareness. And just as important: what’s starting to weaken?
Going through thousands of charts gives me a real feel for the market and keeps me aware heading into the week ahead.
Over the weekend, you always have a clear head and a fresh set of eyes to see the market without it being open.

Geek note: Zweig Breadth Thrust is virtually foreclosed, as it requires average advancing/total issues of ~77% over the next three sessions. Comment: ZBT typically signals new advances, but new advances don't require ZBT.

Father God, thank You for answering our spoken and unspoken prayers. Most importantly, thank You for blessing my sister Rachel and our Dad with this kidney transplant. Please guide the hands of the doctors, nurses, and medical staff as they care for him. We pray for his healing, a safe recovery, and continued strength for our family.
We love You, Lord, and thank You for Your grace and mercy.
In Jesus’ name, Amen! ❤️🙏🏾

The rolling 3-month correlation between #CrudeOil prices and #TNX 10-Year Treasury Yields has reached a 3-year extreme of +0.90.
Historically, correlations can fluctuate as market conditions evolve. While elevated readings have not always persisted indefinitely, past relationships are not necessarily indicative of future results.
Technicians and intermarket analysts may be monitoring whether this unusually strong relationship persists or begins to weaken.

Treasury Note Futures and the KBW Bank Index are flashing a massive divergence not seen since 2007.

As a trader, you have to stop living in fear. Learn to shut out the noise. Work on building your own confidence. Stop focusing on what everyone else is doing. Stop looking for validation from other people. The price action of the market is all the validation you need.

Another interesting thing I'm monitoring is positioning in $USDollar futures alongside confirmation signals from the $Euro.
Commercial hedgers are near some of their most net-short readings in the Dollar as $DXY approaches potential resistance near 100.5.
Meanwhile, the move in the $USDollarIndex is not being fully confirmed by $EURUSD, which remains above an area some technicians may view as key support.
Divergences like these can sometimes be resolved by the stronger market reversing course. If $DXY fails to hold above recent breakout levels, market participants may be watching whether equities and commodities respond favorably.

Please allow me to translate the profound message Linda is conveying. She is noting that the intraday price uptrend on Monday is very linear, such that even a very tight stop is not getting hit. Signal processing engineers would say that there is a high "signal to noise" ratio.
Smooth intraday trends typically happen when there is a large amount of money that needs to get put to work, but the big firms don't want to dump a large order into the market all at once and move prices. So their trading desks use algorithms to chop up the large slug of money into smaller pieces, doling orders out more slowly. This results in that linear form of the intraday chart plot.
The key takeaway, therefore, is that there must be a large amount of money deciding to move now, based on seeing footprints in the intraday plot which match the behavior of prices when that condition is in effect.
