Today was the worst market decline since the last one you don’t remember or care about anymore.

BREAKING: A mystery seller is trying to dump about $500 million in data center loans all at once, per Bloomberg, days after the midterms raised doubts about many projects.
The anonymous seller is auctioning a dozen loans, including a $25 million piece of financing for a huge Stargate site in New Mexico, the joint project of OpenAI, SoftBank and Oracle.
Oracle has already sent that site’s developer a force majeure notice, a legal claim that events beyond its control may excuse it from its obligations.

GS on gold: Renewed Elevated Call Option Demand Raises Volatility and Upside Price Risk
> Gold call option demand has risen sharply amid renewed demand for global macro-policy hedges, creating a mechanical price amplifier to both the upside and downside.
> Market conviction around further Fed hikes -- the main headwind for gold since March -- has weakened following the July FOMC hold and softer July US employment and CPI reports.
> Expect lower inflation to keep the Fed on hold, creating further room for Western investment demand to recover.
> Continue to see significant upside risk to our $4,900/oz end-2026 gold forecast, but also greater two-sided volatility to the gold rally.
> Forecast assumes continued strong central bank demand and a recovery in private investor ETF demand as the Fed remains on hold in 2026.

BofA: The trade is long gold
Bank of America strategist Michael Hartnett says gold remains the best hedge against dollar weakness, bond losses and asset inflation.
Gold funds attracted $6.3B last week, the largest inflow since January 2026.
Hartnett’s “Anything But Dollar” strategy also favors emerging markets.
However, BofA warns investor positioning remains “excessively bullish,” with its Bull & Bear Indicator at 9.3, as technology funds recorded outflows.

Casual people are a plague.
I don't want to hang around unserious people. Give me the person with dreams so big they make others uncomfortable when they say them out loud. Give me the person who spends their weekends obsessing over their craft. Give me the person who doesn't get jealous when those around them are winning, because they're winning too. Life is too short to play it cool, give half effort, and accept mediocrity.

I don't work with the FBI at all. I'm based in Miami, not in Cambridge, so I didn't cover Harvard as thoroughly as @thecrimson or other Boston-based journalists, who have done a terrific job. No one reporter should be held responsible for covering the entire Epstein story. It is too global of a story.

The demand for forecasts goes up when there’s an unforeseen shock, which is when forecasts become the least accurate.

Is this a “canary-in-the-coalmine” moment, similar to August 2007?
This question will be on the mind of some investors and policymakers this morning as they assess the news that, quoting the FT, the “private credit group Blue Owl will permanently restrict investors from withdrawing their cash from its inaugural private retail debt fund.”
There’s plenty to think about here, starting with the risks of an investing phenomenon in advanced (not developing) markets that has gone too far overall (short answer: yes), to the approaches being taken by specific firms (lots of differences, yet subject to the “market for lemons” risk). There’s also the “elephant in the room” question regarding much larger systemic risks (nowhere near the magnitude of those which fueled the 2008 Global Financial Crisis, but a significant – and necessary – valuation hit is looming for specific assets).
More to follow on this.

As insane as this sounds, it’s true: Pam Bondi sent Minnesota officials a letter today saying ICE would leave the state if Minnesota turns over its voter files to the Trump Administration.
They’re openly using state violence as a bargaining chip to seize election infrastructure.
