During development of Metroid Prime we actually had a PC version. It didn't render with any lighting (full bright) and was barely playable but the Visual Studio debugger was way better than the Power PC Metrowerks debugger. I debugged the majority of the gameplay code on PC since the crappy unlit graphics didn't matter when your debugging puzzles.
Kind of wacky to have a PC version again. I wonder if the port's renderer does the dynamic lighting and the TEV blend modes correctly.
Metroid Prime now runs natively on PC without emulation! 🚀 Unlocked FPS, ultrawide, mouse & keyboard, HD textures and mods. 🎮

I can confidently speak for a large percentage of devs that have left VR in the last couple years - they'd be happily still developing VR games if the current market supported more of the kind of games they actually liked to make and play.
This is exactly what I expected, and my general view on the explosion of VR mods - lots of people are *seeing* them, but I don't think it's actually getting anyone new into VR. They make for great video titles and clicks, but adoption remains to be seen.
Nobody knows how to get through to devs and industry insiders on a personal level like Nicholas does, there's many places that would be lucky to have him!
Today, I got laid off from @androidcentral, along with the rest of the staff. I've enjoyed 7 absolutely amazing years there (5 of which were full time), and am beyond thankful for the opportunity to wake up and be a tech journalist every day.
If you're hiring, my DMs are open!

For anyone doing the Start Hackathon, this is a huge timesaver and I definitely recommend
📣 VR devs, this is pretty cool! You can now use your webcam to prototype hand-first experiences in Meta XR Simulator as you prepare for Meta VR Glasses. Iterate without a Quest or VR Glasses, then validate on-device! 🚀
- Track up to two hands using your webcam to drive simulated hand interactions.
- Control your simulated look direction with head rotation, not eye tracking or head position.
- Available on Windows and macOS with Meta XR Simulator v207+.
- Works through standard OpenXR hand-tracking and head-pose interfaces.
- Tracking service and models are included, with no additional downloads at runtime.
. @MetaVR_Official plz give us a black Quest controller bundle when MVRG drop next year 🙏 you already made them! just set some aside for this...

I found my old Leap IR 170 hand tracking module and slapped it on the front of my steam frame- after some driver hassle it seems to actually work!
The Blobtown community is the most creative and inspiring gaming community I’ve ever had the pleasure of being a part of ❤️
Metroid games are like delicious chocolate chip cookies. You're going to have some variation in flavors maybe, but you definitely expect flour, sugar, and chocolate chips in each one.
Replying to @PoloIsSwoolish
Just saw your post but when I was watching the trailer I couldn’t help but think of Dread similarities.
Imjured equipment loss, work your way up to the surface, group of minibosses to ruin your day as you go up.
