The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread ... nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge." A famous writer of science fiction and fact crafted this sentence. Who?

Bradbury bemoaned the destruction of libraries and knowledge in "Fahrenheit 451". So that is a good guess, but the answer is someone else. The picture makes me think of M. C. Escher "Ascending and Descending" and Jorge Luis Borges' "The Library of Babel".

Picture makes me think Borges but I'll guess Bradbury.

How old is the saying “Laws are like sausages. It’s better not to see them being made” — and who said it first? (Nope, it wasn’t Otto von Bismarck.) Those questions are addressed in the latest post on my This Day in Quotes blog. Here's the link→ bit.ly/LawsandSausages

The new attribution is: Anonymous Parisian according to Jean-Louis Guez de Balzac in 1652; popularized by Blaise Pascal in 1657. Unfortunately, people write Mark Twain because they do not have the leisure to make the attribution shorter quoteinvestigator.com/2012/0…
Great. Now my attribution will have to be — Anonymous, widely attributed to Blaise Pascal (I apologize for the length of this attribution; I could not make it shorter.)

Ooh, I’m sure this is an update on one of my favorite quotes by Pascal. I think I used to use it as an email sig.
Update: Earlier instance of a very popular saying: "That man" people used to say in Paris when I was there, "wrote a long book because he did not have the leisure to write a short one" 1652, Jean-Louis Guez de Balzac in Socrate Chrestien quoteinvestigator.com/2012/0…
