THE REHAB OF JULIAN ASSANGE
Twenty years of WikiLeaks, an Oscar campaign, and a file nobody wants to reopen. (Multipart Thread ๐งต)
He is standing in front of a mural of his own face in Sydney, pointing at it.
WikiLeaks posted the photo on September 17. Millions of views.
Two words: โHeโs back.โ
And he is. Cannes last year. Eugene Jareckiโs documentary in theaters now, an Oscar contender with the kind of press cycle money buys and prestige launders. WikiLeaks turns 20 next month. In Spain his lawyers are pursuing a 20 year sentence against the man who bugged the room he slept in.
The rehabilitation tour is running on schedule. What is not running is any revisiting of the record.
So let us revisit it. Togetherโฆ
I want to be precise about what this is, because precision is the only thing separating this from the sewer. I am not telling you Julian Assange is an intelligence asset. I do not have that document. I will not invent one, and anyone handing you that conclusion without paper is selling you something with a markup.
What I have are questions. A man built a career demanding that institutions answer questions. He has never answered these. And the Oscar campaign is not going to be the thing that asks.

Remember in 2018, just before the scamdemic when Netflix put out a Zombie movie (Cargo) about a virus that made the infected literally bury their head in the sand.
The virus was also named the "fracking virus"
The mockery levels are insane.

Since it's October, Let's Talk about GhostWatch
If you're a certain age and live in the UK this 1992 television special probably scarred you for life. Presented as a live studio and on location investigation into a type of "Enfield poltergeist" style haunting at a normal suburban middle class house and family.
Before the show a very short notice was displayed that alluded this was fiction, however this was mostly missed by excited Halloween watchers.
It featured trusted and familiar faces from factual interview and news shows, and a cheeky roaming reporter for comic relief, all played completely straight and documentary style. The hauntings in the house ever escalating but always very subtle, quick camera pans catch something in a reflection maybe, they talk about it in the studio, everyone at home absolutely captivated. Haunting bangs and mysterious puddles, demonic voices and screeching cats, and a lot more that had everyone my age captivated and terrified in equal measure.
They advertised it's runtime for 30 minutes as I recall, but they kept announcing they were extending this "live" broadcast as it became more and more intriguing.
I won't spoil it for you, but a rewatch nearly 25 years later is tough and a bit laughable, but imagine you are 11 years old, you sit down on Halloween night, lights off, and think you're watching a real Live broadcast. Maybe then you can imagine why this effected so many people around that age back then, and why to this day me and my friends still reference "Mr Pipes" to each other.
It's on the Internet archive, I will link it in the comments.

I did mention
Remember the 1984 film, The NeverEnding Story?
Most people think it was just a kidsโ fantasy film. It wasnโt. It was actually an allegory, and a warning.
I'll explain...
The protagonist in the movie is a young man by the name of Atreyu who is fighting against a force in the universe called "The Nothing." The Nothing sucks meaning out of everything it touches.
Sound familiar?
The Nothing is the same spiritual war weโre living through right now: the slow decay of joy, creativity, wonder, amusement and critical thought.
Here's the important part...
The Nothing wins when you stop caring.
It only grows when we stop imagining.
It only grows when we lose our hopes.
It only grows when we forget our dreams.
Our joy is resistance.
Our creativity is rebellion.
Your amusement is your armor.
Your critical thinking is your sword.
The Nothing only wins if you let it.
