Media Release: Renters estimated to save almost $3,000 a year from One Nation migration reset New modelling released today shows One Nation’s 3-year immigration reset could reduce rent inflation by 6.5 per cent, representing a potential saving of approximately $54 a week, or $2,818 a year, for an average rental. One Nation leader Senator Pauline Hanson said the analysis showed Australians struggling with rent increases would get real relief after years of mass migration under Labor and the Liberals. “Families are competing with hundreds of people for rental accommodation while more of their wages disappear into rent,” Senator Hanson said. “Our modelling illustrates what reducing that pressure could mean for the family budget: approximately $2,818 a year at the average national rental by the third year. “The Liberals are now talking about lower migration after years of helping create this mess. Australians deserve more than another major party target that won’t be achieved. “One Nation will deliver net-negative migration for three years, with more people leaving Australia than arriving, before returning to our long-term net overseas migration ceiling of 130,000 a year. “We will reduce the number of temporary migrants and unlawful non-citizens by more than 750,000 over those three years, giving housing and essential services breathing space. “For too long, Labor and the Liberals have outsourced immigration policy to universities and put the demand for cheap unskilled workers ahead of Australian living standards. Universities collect the fees, while Australians compete for the homes and pay the price. “We should be exporting education, not selling migration. Too many students are majoring in permanent residency while Australians are drowning in unskilled migration. “Australia needs the right workers to fill genuine shortages. We will maintain employer access to essential skilled workers, seasonal workers and working holiday makers, while training more Australians. “But a temporary student or skilled-worker visa should not become a back door to family migration. We will stop visa hopping and sharply restrict accompanying family visas. “Labor’s own Intergenerational Report projects an Australia of 39.3 million people by 2066 and assumes long-term net migration of 235,000 a year. “Australians are entitled to ask whether their homes, hospitals and infrastructure can keep up with Labor’s million more migrants over the next four years alone. “The Liberals’ housing pledge links migration to the number of homes built. Their answer still involves building more homes while bringing in more people to compete for them. “One Nation wants to rethink the system. Build more homes, get the workers we actually need, stop the rorts and reduce the pressure on Australians trying to secure a place to live. “A bigger population is not an achievement if Australians cannot afford somewhere to live. Immigration policy must serve Australians’ living standards.” ENDS
